I have some leftover food to put away.

I had made some chicken cooked with a bit of vinegar for my grandson. He had told me that he was coming yesterday.
As it was, he did not come. And he did not call.
So I have a lot of food to put away. I also bought orange cake and ice cream. I´m sorry that that keep on buying food for the grandchildren. I´m sure that it would be less expensive to invite them to a not so good restaurant.
For dinner I´ll eat part of it plus a coleslaw salad.
I´d better go to the kitchen before it gets colder. Today the sun forgot to shine.

I won´t invite him again. If he comes in the future, he´ll have to invite ME. He is 33. Not a baby any longer.

@marguicha - Well said and this is a great decision. He is old enough to invite you out.

@LadyDuck I have discovered that this young generation pretend to be babies until they are old. Most young people live with their parents until they are grown up and spend the money they earn on luxuries while their parents have to give them everything. Part of my grandchildren should be helping my daughters at their age (and inviting me) But they still it should be the other way around.

Sorry your grandson didn't come, I hope he will visit another time, I just tried marinating frozen chicken fingers in Italian dressing and as they thawed they soaked up the dressing and were nice and tangy,

I think that I will take my grandkids to a restaurant if they ever visit. I don´t like to throw away food.

I wonder why he didn't come. Did he even call?

Sorry he didn't show. Having them take you to a restaurant is a good idea if they show

I decided that I will not invite them again. My granddaughter is the same.

I think I'd start waiting for your grandson to actually show up before starting to cook something for him to eat. Or ordering extra groceries for him.
A not-so-good restaurant might be a good idea. You can always call a cab to take you both there IF he actually comes over.
I'm sorry he's so inconsiderate of your time and cooking skills...

I think that the next time he says he´ll come I´ll eat before he arrives and invite him to a fast food restaurant near by where I can watch him while he eats.

Hope you'll be able to eat all that food or at least freeze some of it? If he wasn't coming he should have at least called and let you know.

I am sorry he disappointed you, caused you extra work, and didn't bother to call. Next time maybe don't do anything at all to prep for him. You deserve better.

I wouldn’t, either. He should have more respect than that.

How old is your grandson? Does he often not come and not inform you?

@mytunemagic I wholly agree. And I decided that I will not accept that treatment again.

I get it — leftovers at the end of a long day feel like one more chore. Still, please don’t risk it. Pop them away now: into shallow containers so they cool fast, lids on, into the fridge within two hours. Label today’s date. Reheat only once and make sure it’s piping hot all the way through. If it’s been sitting out too long or smells off, bin it. Food waste is annoying; food poisoning is worse. You’ve got this — five minutes now saves a headache later.
