Pie For Breakfast?

If I said I had pie every morning this week for breakfast would you think I was crazy? Monday it was Caramel Apple Pie Tuesday was Key Lime Pie and Today it's Boston Creme Pie. You might also wonder why I have so much pie in my house and so many different kinds. Well, it's not actually "real" pie but Dannon Lite and Fit Greek Yogurt. They're really good, only 80 calories, 12 gm of protein, 0 fat and low sugar 7gm. My doctor wants me to increase my protein so this is a good way to get in some extra without having to actually eat meat or poultry and I don't like eggs (which is an easy way to add protein at breakfast time). I also bought a box of Cinnamon Protein Cheerios which I'll try over the weekend. Little by little I'm finding ways to boost up my protein.

Those are delicious yogurts! But I really thought you had pie every day! I assumed someone went nuts with Thanksgiving plans, and gave some to you and your family. There is a sports TV person on ESPN who has frequently talked about having pumpkin pie for breakfast every single day since he was in college. He’s now in his sixties!

That's interesting...pumpkin isn't super sweet, and is kind of a flavored custard, so it probably isn't terrible for you.

@snowy22315 I wouldn’t mind eating it myself more than just for the holiday season.

Good for you. I don't eat enough protein either. I should try to eat some for snacks. Maybe I will have some for lunch.

My doctor suggested I boost my protein so I'm looking for simple ways to add it. Apparently I was only eating about half of what I should be on a daily basis. Something I never really paid much attention to until I started researching nutrients, macros and calories.

@Marilynda1225 I need more protein too. My carb addiciton fuels everything it seems. I think I will get some cheese snack sticks and some almonds at the grocery store though.

That sounds tasty to me. I have eaten pie for supper, with a chunk of cheese. Most of my pies have little sugar or dates for sugar in them.

I've had apple pie with cheese and it's pretty good. I do prefer fruit pies when it comes to "real" pie . Do you bake your own pies?

Real pie sounds way better than pie flavored yogurt but I'll settle for the yogurt

But I do have pie for breakfast... mostly apple pie. I figure it's not any different than having toast and jam...

Apple Pie is a good breakfast choice or any fruit pie I would think. But, who's to say what is breakfast food and what isn't

Not bad to have variety of Pies if it helps. You can try Tofu as well for Protein or Cheese based dish. But again, it is as per your preferences!

I've never tried Chobani yogurt but I'm going to give it a try, 20 protein and zero added sugar is what I'm looking for.

I'm glad you're enjoying the yogurts. Pretty bought a bunch of different flavors of yogurts a month of so ago but I didn't like most of them. I do like and eat Hiland black cherry yogurt, though. That's what I buy when I'm in the mood for it. I eat meat at almost every meal so no problem with getting enough protein here. I had to stop eating Cheerios when it started causing upset stomachs every time I ate it. Pretty doesn't eat Cheerios so we threw the rest of them away. (I liked Honey Nut Cheerios the best with regular Cheerios a close runner-up. Now, I eat plain oats with a little sugar and almond milk once in a while.) *shrug*

@Marilynda1225 I'm glad you're getting it figured out. I love eggs and often have some boiled and peeled in the fridge. If I don't feel like making something, I eat a couple of eggs with carrot sticks and I'm good to go. I also eat a sausage, egg and cheese croissant most mornings for breakfast. I've got slices of all-meat pizza in the freezer and eat one of those for supper at times.

Honey Nut Cheerios is my favorite when it comes to Cheerios but I'm going to give this cinnamon one a try since it has added protein. I never gave a thought to how much protein I was (or should be eating). but the doctor said I was only eating about half daily of what I should be. So, now I've been researching nutrients, macros and calories and trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my daily meals/snacks. The online app My Fitness Pal gives a breakdown so it's been easy to see where I'm falling short.

My sister and I lived with our grandparents for several years. They owned a tiny small town cafe, and Grandma made all the food. When we moved in, I was her designated helper, we made pies for her customers every morning but Sundays, at about 5:30 AM. I had to get up before school and help her make them. She was a wonderful cook. Grandpa ate a piece of pie for breakfast for years, they worked together in the cafe until he passed away. On a wild note--I can recall a piece of pie with a scoop of ice cream on it was 50 cents. Without ice cream, it was 35 cents! I love yogurt. Eggs are good for protein, too.

That's a nice memory to share about your grandparents and their little cafe. I bet they were successful with their business and the pies delicious. My mom loved to bake and she made the best pie crusts when she got her pie baking going. Apple was my favorite and I remember coming home from school and being greeted by the smell of pie baking in the oven. 50 cents for a slice of pie with ice cream (wow) it would be probably $5 now

Love the “pie for breakfast” twist. Nice way to hit targets without meat or eggs. I do similar on busy mornings, then add a higher-protein lunch to balance the day.
