The 80s were so iconic. Such identifiable clothes, hairdos and music. There were some good songs and movies in the 80s. What do you remember about that period? What I remember right away is the senseless murder of John Lennon in 1980. The minimum wage per hour was $3.10. Median cost of a new home $64,600 First Class postage stamp $.16 Gas per gallon $1.25 Movie ticket $2.69 The US tunes into Dallas to see who shot J. R. A Chicago magazine first uses the word "yuppies". Top TV shows: Dallas, The Dukes of Hazzard, M*A*S*H, The Love Boat, Little House on the Prairie, etc. Some Billboard hits: Magic - Olivia Newton=John, Rock With You - Michael Jackson, Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen, Funkytown - Lipps Inc. Some popular cars: Oldsmobile Cutlass (hubby had one), Ford Escort, Buick Regal Some popular toys - Lite-Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, Rubik's Cube, Hot Wheels, Barbie Dreamhouse That's just a small sampling of the 80s. Anything you'd like to add? Photo Credit: Mine AI

Awesome 80s. I went from child to young adult in that decade . . . I consider those years "my time" as a teen. For me it's the music . . . 80s music are forever embedded in me. I think of MTV . . . music videos galore. 80s clothing . . . bright colors near neon, the tuxedo look, "feathered" hair,

Even if the 80s seem "yesterday", I would say that I remember more the 70s, the fashion of the 70s, the songs. the movies. Surely because I was not yet married and I had so much more time for those things.

@LadyDuck I had really long hair in the late 60s. I always wanted it straight like the British models; but I had too much natural curl.

In the mid to late 80s I was single. I went out dancing a lot. My daughter and I did a lot of things together. She was a teen and we had fun. We lived in a cute little apartment and had some good times. Made good memories there. That's when answering services were still in operation. I enjoyed that job a lot. Taking messages and then getting ahold of doctors and businessmen with their messages. Interesting facts about back then.

The 70s I was not there. I felt that the 80s are cool period. The 90s were going downhill. Let's not touch anything from the 2000s onwards.

I was born in 1980. I do remember Lite-Bite, Strawberry Shortcake, Rubik's Cube, and Hot Wheels. I do remember Michael Jackson. My grandmother liked country music so that's mostly what I listened to. She also had an Oldsmobile Cutlass. Another popular toy was the cabbage patch kids dolls.

I just remember that it was a rather iconic time, and even perhaps one of the last of them. Since the end of the 80s, maybe the 90s had some memorable things such as grunge rock. But after that, what's really been distinctive about anything past 1999?

@LindaOHio Eras were definitely distinct at one time. There's been nothing distinct for going on 30 years. It is what it is, I guess. Maybe we've just run out of ideas? Or too much social media has sucked creativity out of people. Not sure. Even when it comes to music, there are so few big artists who write their own music, and even the songs that are being written for them have no uniqueness to them. They are simple compositions with no dynamics. We need a refresh, and hopefully we will get one soon.

I have to agree with you there was lots to like and you could still afford many things, Being a young adult in the 80s I love going out to eat with my mom and we always ordered a Martini or Manhattan as cocktails, I know these day it is very expensive to eat out,

I loved the 80s. My kids were growing up and the music and toys, etc are all part of my memory bank now. Geez though, minimum wage at $3.10? how in the world did we manage? It's almost unfathomable to see how much EVERYTHING has increased in price since then.

Michael Jackson, too. He was an icon, and he still is. On top of that, Archie and Friends, The Nightrider, The A-Team, New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson, Gloria Estefan, Hair Spray, and the list goes on.
