Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl

I watched a documentary about Shania Twain yesterday; and it was interesting enough that I thought I'd write a brief review/critique:
As you all know, I am not a country music fan with just a few exceptions: Patsy Cline, The Everly Brothers, Glen Campbell singing Wichita Lineman; and when Shania Twain came out with her crossover album changing her concentration from country music to country/pop...BOOM!...I fell in love!
Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl came out in 2022 and followed Shania from when she was a small girl in Canada with her family struggling to buy food to her becoming an international superstar.
As a youngster, she sang in bars after last call. The documentary follows her struggle to become a superstar, including her marriage to collaborator Mutt Lange who was instrumental in helping her write hit songs. She later divorced him.
Shania's release of the album Come on Over established her as a huge country pop superstar; and her music videos broke the stereotypes of what a country star should look like and dress like.
She has sold over 100 million records and is the best-selling female artist in country music history.
If you love Shania or if you have no idea who she is, I highly recommend this documentary. Check YouTube for the trailer, documentary and music videos.

@LindaOHio That's nice. It's hard for some of these young people to stay modest.

Yes. They say she is very grounded which is good. She doesn't have a big head.

She is more country pop now. Here's one of her music videos. It's pretty steamy.

Shania is quite a woman. I saw a documentary about her too. Didn't she have some ailment for a while? Anxiety or something.

She had Lyme Disease. She thought she would never be able to sing again; but she overcame the difficulties.

Shania is one of those "is she really country" kind of gals to me. Super talented with fun songs that rock more than twang, and so it separates her a bit from the "pack." And that goes for some other country talents as well for me. I am not a big fan of country either, but some of it I can stomach more than others depending on the artist and the songs.
Take "Seminole Wind" and "Swinging" from John Anderson. I like him. Back in the day I liked Randy Travis, but when it came to him, it really depended on the song.
The new "pop country" and some of the stuff that incorporates a hip-hop vibe do not appeal to me at all.

Quite an interesting take on Shania Twain.
I think she has been a playback singer for a few movie tracks.
I am not knowing her songs in particular but know that she has been quite popular.
Now that you have told, I could explore further.

Her concert would have been great. I want to go to Barry Gibb's last concert; but that's not possible. Paul McCartney is having one with a bunch of other star musicians.

She did have some super catchy songs - definitely some great ones to sing at karaoke ("That Don't Impress Me Much" is a personal fave). Beautiful lady, too.
