Pretty is Gone!

I woke up and went looking for Pretty to ask for her help separating meats and getting them packaged for the freezer and didn't find her in her room, the living room, the kitchen or bathroom.
I checked the front door and it was unlocked so stepped outside and called her name... She didn't answer.
I tried calling her phone and she answered it and told me Uncle Steve had taken her grocery shopping. *WHEW!* Normally, when Uncle Steve takes her somewhere, Pretty tells me in case I need something. She said I was asleep and she didn't want to wake me up.
Pretty brought home a smoked turkey, sandwich meats and drink mixes. She forgot bread.
I tried on all the jeans in my closet and several pair will fit me since I've been losing weight.
We don't need to buy any more for me.
I went to the kitchen after I talked with her on the phone and got the meats separated, bagged and in the freezer. The turkey is in the fridge thawing for Thursday morning. I also cooked ground beef and made pasta with some of it for late lunch with extra meat browned for something else in the coming day or two. We shall see. I also browned several sweet Maya onions for a side dish and to add to whatever else I make today or tomorrow. We still have half the pan of cornbread made in the fridge, too.
Do you ever lose people?

I think it was last year that I suddenly was able to get ahold of a friend so I decided I would take her up on her offer and get myself to the Walk In. I tried to call upstairs to tell hubby I was gone. He didn't hear me. He was pretty angry when I got home cause I'd taken off like that. You sure have a lot of meat in the house.

I don't like it when she just disappears like that but it doesn't happen often and she does carry a phone now so I can call and check on her. She doesn't lock the front door when she leaves me in the house because she hates carrying a key.
She normally tells me when she leaves because she claims I might lock the door with her outside. I've only done that once... and then fell asleep. She went to the neighbor's house and he called and woke me to let her back in.
I eat a lot of meat.
She will eat some when I make stuff she likes but if she cooks for herself, she usually doesn't eat meat.

Freaky. Sure glad all is okay.
We will be getting the turkey out to thaw tomorrow. I used to get several pounds of ground beef and separate them into bags too. I haven't gotten any in ages. I looked at the price and even for turkey burger it is $10 a lb. Next month I am getting some to make goulash which I love. Cami has an onion, so we didn't need one. I am such a hamburger lover I wish it wasn't so expensive. Cami and Josh like the Hamburger Helper, but I can't stomach them. Maybe I will start getting some more (hamburger that is) even though the price is twice what I was paying a couple of years ago.
I have my daughter's outings timed in my mind. If she is gone longer than her usual, we start to worry. She was nearly hit by a stupid driver out on the main street a few years ago. Since then, and because my daughter has an olive complexion (ICE nervousness) we tend to worry if she is gone too long.
Cornbread. Mmm.

@DaddyEvil ......Yes, with just my state ID I may not get much huh?
I used to mix it like that when making meatloaf.
It's all expensive here. But frozen stuff gets old too. I'd rather just eat out.

I use that mix for burgers, in pasta and when making meatloaf. It tastes good together.
Pretty will start saying we eat out too much if I suggest going out more than once every few weeks. She used to do that when I was still working and the money was mine. I'd tell her she didn't have to eat out but I was going to anyway and that would make her mad!
I just started picking up burgers or Chinese on my way home from work, eat it before I got home and tell her I wasn't hungry when I got home.
Now, the money is hers so I don't get a say in whether we spend it or not.

All meat is expensive now compared to a couple of years ago but you know trump says groceries are cheap everywhere.
Just don't forget to take your driver's license so the stores will sell it to you.
We always buy a 5 lbs roll of 80/20 hamburger and a 2 lbs roll of premium sausage and mix them together (75% hamburger, 25% sausage) and bag them up for the freezer. (Hamburger is cheaper than any other type of meat right now, at least here.)
I don't blame you. I'd worry about a darker skinned child if they were gone too long in this political climate, too.

@DaddyEvil what if the person you live with loses his/her memory? It would be hard to find them.

@May2k8 Yeah, that wouldn't be very funny, either... That would probably drive me crazy trying to convince them who they are and that they knew me.

You scared me! Well I'm glad you were able to locate her. If I leave the kids (they are well old enough), I always leave a note taped onto the hall mirror. This house is too small . . . I always know if anyone is here or not. I'm a light sleeper too - so no one can just sneak away

@DaddyEvil We have alarms for when any of our outer 3 doors open - a "blink blink". Can't miss that. I never use earbuds but the kids and Hubby do
. Maybe that means "I" can sneak out

@much2say Mom needed that type of door alarm when I was a kid. I was always going outside at night and she'd find me in the bench swing watching the moon or singing to the moon. She kept putting different types of locks on the doors and I'd still get outside.
Yeah, but you'd go right back inside.

Pretty will walk out of the room we're talking in and keeps talking... I hear okay but when she's clear across the house or in another room, it just sounds like she's mumbling at me. If I say I can't hear her, she gets mad and starts screaming at me.
I just go to her so she doesn't feel the need to scream at me. *sigh*

My husband can be like a ninja sometimes. Slow in general since the stroke, but fast when he wants to be. Often times, he'll be quick when it takes me time to do something. Like, I'll get my chair out of the van, and then I'm ready to move, he'll be halfway to wherever it is we're going.

No more people to lose, I was a child who always felt terrified if I woke up and did not find anyone about, Usually that was not a problem in the apartments we lived in but during the summer my parents arrange it so I could live out in the Catskill Mountains in a bungalow, During the week my parents worked in the city and a lday watched me and then we all spent the weekend together, If I slept longer than anyone else and no one was in the bunglow I would start crying and run outside to see where everyone was,

Thank you. A young hickory smoked turkey here was less than $20. It was a little over 11 lbs.
Havarti cheese is sooo good!
I bought sliced ham for sandwiches two days ago. I'll need to freeze most of the ham or it will spoil with just me eating it.

@noni1959 I haven't checked the prices of regular turkeys in years and years. Once we tried smoked turkey, we've never gone back to raw turkeys again.

@DaddyEvil My son has a smoker and if I see a small turkey on sale, I may get it and try it out. Maybe at Christmas. I couldn't believe Costco had it for that much.

It happened with you last year
My mom never goes out anywhere without my father. One day when I came home late evening , my mom was not there. My wife told me she had gone out for an hour two hours back.
For next three hours I kept waiting for her. Time was passing and I was growing worried and restless. My father was also waiting for her.
I went to temples , to our relatives' homes and everywhere she could possibly go But didn't find her.
At about 10.30 p.m. I saw a autorickshaw coming to our house When it reached to me, I saw mom sitting in it.
I ran to her and asked where did she go
She laughed and told me she had been near the outskirts of the town where she forgot which route she should take to be back home
Finally she had to hire a autorickshaw to be back.

Pretty and I stay in our bedrooms mostly, so it's not unusual for me to need to do a little hunting but it did worry me when she wasn't in the house. She usually doesn't leave without letting me know.
And yeah, it's a good thing I can make biscuits and cornbread. We don't have all the ingredients to make white bread homemade.
