Did the US really invade a foreign country last night?

Did the US really invade Venezuela last night and capture their President and his wife? I have seen this on several news sources but find it kind of hard to believe. I have to head to Guitar Center soon, so I'll have to do my research later in the day. I find it hard to believe that Congress was able to vote on such a decision so quickly. Let us know what you have heard.

As you sow, so shall you reap. Look for someone to arrest him for crimes soon. (Hopefully our own Congress, but I don't think they have the cojones to stand up to him.)

@DaddyEvil -- wish that were true. Mike Johnson concurred with what he did, despite violating the Constitution.
President Trump has authorized a military operation in Venezuela to protect American lives and hold Nicolas Maduro accountable for trafficking illegal drugs and violent cartel members into the US.

@DaddyEvil — oh, yeah, they’d impeach him if the Democrats regain control of Congress. Morons, THAT isn’t an impeachable offense.

@DaddyEvil — the sad thing is they won’t impeach him NOW, with the crimes going on. They’ll wait a year with the caveat that they lose control. That shows their true colors…yellow.

Yes we did and no of course Trump didn't get approval from Congress. Not even the Gang of 8 knew about it. He is a disgrace.

This is the first I've heard of it, but it's not impossible either. Sadam husaine was killed in a raid some years ago, ordered by the president of the time. So, it's not above our scope I guess.

The US did not invade Venezuela, they conducted air strikes and "kidnapped" the President of Venezuela. It seems that Congress did not vote on such decision.

@TheHorse NO, it's not legal under International Law, but Trump does not respect the Law, he never did.

I guess you’re right and one thing about this invasion is that he did not asked for any approval on congress which make this invasion questionable. He just hide under the excuse that this does not need any congressional approval. On the other side of things removal of a dictator in an impoverished country such as Venezuela on the promise that US will be administering while there is no functional government is in place seems a good move providing the Venezuelan to choose their leader to run their country. But statistics is against them since historically US invasion usually doesn’t go in many cases like the one in IrAq, Afghanistan and many others similar military operations made in the past. I just hope that order will be restored soon and they be allowed to choose their leader freely so that they can once again restore themselves to normalcy and prosperity since they do hold a large amount of oil which can easily recover their impoverished and mismanaged economy.

@TheHorse I have no qualms about removing a dictator who abuses his fellow countrymen to gain power and wealth. This sends signal to the world that hiding behind a sovereign nation and abuse of power can easily be replaced and police by a nation like yours but it also sends reason for other states to also assert force on other nations like China taking over Taiwan since US was able to do it. Still there are gray areas in US action against a sovereign state.

You'd think he could have negotiated with a fellow fascist dictator. I am fine with US Big Oil helping Venezuela rebuild its infrastructure.

It has been very shocking. Yet it has happened. Now it remains to be seen if he gets a fair trial in US. Also, who will manage Venezuela and how? This has been out of International norms to capture a President while he was in sleep.

@TheHorse Countries are debating whether US can try something similar with their heads of the state some day? However, doing so against bigger military powers can be trickier.

History is such a hard thing for people isn't it? Remember when Barack Obama invaded Libya and killed Kadafi? Remember when Barack Obama actually conducted military raids and airstrikes on seven different nations during his presidency? Maybe you DO remember. But of course, what's history worth except a few facts? You could ask Bill Clinton a few questions about his actions around the world as well. But hey, why focus on the past when you can put Trump in a bad light even if he's doing the same things every other president before him has done?
