Blood Pressure Monitor

For the last few days the new BP monitor I was given a few months ago has been either telling me ERROR or it has been pumping up to 270 psi and shutting itself off...
Pretty is usually asleep when I'm taking my blood pressure so I couldn't ask her to test it and see if it was just me it didn't want to work for. I changed out the batteries, then changed them again.
She's awake and not busy this morning, so she tested it on herself. Sure enough, the first test came back as ERROR and the second went to 270 psi and shut itself off without giving a reading.
I called the manufacturer and they said I'd need to return it. It was manufactured in Florida so we'll send it off in the mail when we go to the Post Office.

I have a wrist BP cuff. It may not be as “accurate” as the arm cuff, but it gets the job done when I need it. It also doesn’t feel like it’s going to choke my arm off.
I’m sorry you have to deal with that. That’s frustrating to have to deal with replacing it. Even if it is free, it’s a pain!

Thanks. This one says I can order a free cuff and it claims I can get a wrist cuff. I don't know how much trouble that would be, though.
I used to have a miniature cuff/machine that was just for the wrist but it was so inaccurate that the doctor told me to throw it away.

@DaddyEvil If I'm not mistaken, the nurse also told me that it had to be checked at least three times to get a more accurate BP.

@May2k8 The instructions I got with both BP monitors don't say that. And no nurse has ever taken more than one BP reading no matter which method they use.

Yes, but I can't take my own BP the way a nurse does. Pretty would have to help me and she's asleep when I take my morning BP reading.

Sometimes my BP drops and sometimes it shoots skyward, so I need to be able to check it.
I'm very happy to see you back!

@DaddyEvil It's good to be back. My blood pressure does the same so I watch it closely too.

That's a pain that you have to send it back and that you're without a BP monitor in the meantime. Hope they replace it for you ASAP
Like @FourWalls I also have a wrist cuff for taking BP and it's pretty accurate.

My old BP monitor had odd spots on its display, too. It always gave good readings, though, up until the cuff got a hole in a seam. I couldn't buy a new cuff for it so was given a new monitor.

@DaddyEvil Yeah, your need for one is urgent. Mine was just because those few months ago I couldn’t stand or walk without help, and they wanted it monitored.

It sounds like that apparatus is really taking its work very seriously and over working.
I hope they can get a new one out to you quickly.

@DaddyEvil ........How do you test your blood sugar while it's being repaired?

@celticeagle I can't test my BP until they get the monitor repaired or we go to Walmart and use their public monitor.
My doctor told me to take the BP medication twice a day until it's repaired. I often don't need medication in the evening but she said taking the medication anyway won't hurt me.

I can't use the wrist ones. They read me too high and even my heart doctor told me not to use them. my ex had a different type that went on the arm and seemed pretty good. I hope you can get a new one quickly. I'm sorry you have to go through all that.

It’s good that you noticed. Good to hear that you can return it ….are they going to send a replacement or will you get a refund ?

Mine is only about two months old. I'm not sure I like this brand.
Every time Pretty used this new one, it over-pressurized the cuff and hurt her.

@LindaOHio We talked about buying one from Walmart but were given this one by the new-to-us pharmacy we switched to at the beginning of 2025.

i always think it's due to low battery, when something doesn't work. i'm sorry you have to return it and wait till they give you a new one. ah, not fair

It's okay, though. I just have to take my meds as if I don't own a monitor until they return it again.

@valherma00 New monitors are very quiet. Pretty can't hear it even if my bedroom door is open and she's in the hallway right outside.
I'm sure the family member needed it.

@DaddyEvil o, yes, i forgot about the meds. i am glad you are taking them and hope you won't wait too long for your new monitor. these monitors are expensive too. i bought one but left it with the person with whom i don't want to contact anymore; a toxic family member. i remember she returned everything but not that but, let it be. i always hated that loud noise that monitor makes

It is a bummer that you have to send it in for repairs, but at least you know it is the cuff and not your fault.

True... My BP is usually high in the morning and low in the evening. (Maybe because I'm awake all night and sleep in the evening before taking the measurement.) I'm not sure.

I hope they can fix it soon.
But usually when the monitor got an error, it is because you have a low blood pressure. But anyway, what I do is use the manual one. That's my personal encounter when checking my aunt amd may parents' bllod pressure.

I don't have a manual BP monitor/cuff and wouldn't know how to do it that way if I did own one.
Hopefully, they're return it or a new one to me soon.

Yeah, they aren't made so we can fix problems with them.
