I need to vent.
Over the years all of you have been so kind to listen when someone vents so this is mine:
For the past few years I have had leaky pipes all over this home, it is a 22 year old mobile home and up until 2022 the water utility I had provided extremely mineralized water which caked up all the joints and connections it flowed through.
As of September 2025 I have hired a young man to help fix some of those problems. He has done a great job so far.
He has fixed the drain for the tub, replaced the spicket in the kitchen and the day before yesterday he replaced the 5 year old water heater that had been leaking for at least 6 months unbeknownst to me, boy was that water closet and the underbelly moldy. He has been kind and is not charging me more money than I can afford but I feel guilty that I can not pay more.
There are still things that need fixin but some of that will have to wait. The underbelly needs to dry which will probably not happen before the heat of summer and the spicket out front needs to be replaced as well so that I can put a new hose on it to water the few trees that I need to water.
It has not been easy financially but hopefully I will have paid off the credit card by springtime so that I can pay this young man to replace that spicket.
He charged me $1,888 for cleaning up the water problem to some degree then replacing the water heater, is that a fair price or should I have paid more? What do you think?
I thought this video of Roscoe kinda shows how I feel about the water damages I have had to face. Ain't he vocal?

Based on how things are charged here, that sounds reasonable for me, especially since a new water heater alone runs in the neighborhood of $800.

I'm so glad you liked it, he is such a funny pup and I love when he tries to tell me how angry he is.
The young man did more than just replace the water heater, he had to crawl under the mobile home to cut the underbelly so that the water that had built up under there would be released. It will take a long time for that to dry enough for him to make the repairs that need to be made.

I've never had major water damage/pipe replacement so I can't help you with your questions. Sorry about that.
At least Roscoe doesn't mean it!

I agree, Roscoe is a cutie.
He's done so much, like cleaning up the water closet so he can put the new heater in, he had to slit the underbelly plastic to let the water drain and then he installed my electric water heater which was no easy task.
I think I owe him more than he's gotten but hopefully I can compensate him later in the year when one of my debts has been paid off.

From what I've seen him do he does give the impression he wants to do a really good job. He's only 31 and works so much harder than many I know of that are his age.

I have no idea but if any of the parts came from out of the country you know there would have been an extra charge. And a lot of prices have gone up after the 1st of the year. Electrical would be the one that would be expensive so I would say this amount isn't too bad.

I don't think any parts he used were not of the USA, he bought everything he needed from Home Depot.

Depending on where you live, he might've over charged you. When you're having any work done, it's important to see what the professionals charge and compare it to what you were charged. You should never feel guilty for paying less, but you should never pay more than what the work is worth.

It cost about $2,300 for my new water heater and installation (most of which WAS the labor cost), so I’d say that’s about accurate.
I love Roscoe!

Gotta love Roscoe and he has the perfect name
I don't have much experience but I think you were charged a fair price. I would have thought it would have been more expensive

Oh yeah, I do love that rumbunktious boy, he got his name at the humane society and I almost changed it.
I'm thinking he undercharged me so as soon as I clear up one of my debts I'll start sending that payment to him, I still need his help.
