Time to Make Some Money

Well, it’s time to sign up to make some money. Well, May 1st and 2nd are the actual days of the work. Some of you may remember last year my sister recruited me to work a state competition she was in charge of, finding workers and judges for. So I signed up to be a drama judge again, and also to work a holding room. They have the contestants wait in a room together, and then you send them out as their name is called. I thought about instead judging memorization in addition to drama, but that is so precise I figured I might miss something. The categories are drama, music, art (which has sub categories of drawing, painting, sculpture, animation…), and sign language. A couple of judges were not asked back. Because we’re dealing with kids, you don’t give a zero. You count so many points off, and you will never end up with a zero. A couple of judges did NOT read the rules, gave a zero, and that will be that for them. Then, one lady that was judging with me was not asked back because she wanted to count off (but was not allowed) to count off for her outfit. She also made a mistake on adding up points which resulted in announcing the wrong winner. Would you like to judge any topics if you could? It’s 75 dollars per day for 2 hours work. You get paid that night, and you get paid the same whether you judge, or watch a room. Some of you would be great art judges.

Thanks, snowy. You’d make a great judge because I know you’d stick to the rules, and do it right. They have a really hard time finding sign language judges. Last year they had to settle for two, instead of the standard three.

If it weren't so far away, I'd sign up but only to watch a room. No way would I feel competent to act as a judge.

I didn’t either last year, but it went well. I’m just glad I’m a judge no one complained about. LOL You could keep me company! We could create mischief. Last year I was in the hall on the Friday night, and I had to keep people quiet. At one point, I ticked some people off telling them to be quiet, but they were getting ridiculous!

@AmbiePam I'm sure we'd have a lot of fun! But, when my eyes started swelling shut, I wouldn't have a way to get home.

I'm glad you signed up again for this year. I don't' know if I would be a good judge as I probably couldn't take off any points for the kids but watching a room might be doable.

Can you imagine giving a child a zero? That is nuts. What’s great about these kids is that they have these things down Pat so well you barely have to count off any points at all. I also like to leave encouraging comments in the notes, really accentuating the things they did well, but being specific in what might need work. What makes it tricky is that last year I had to judge a few relatives!

@AmbiePam judging relatives would be especially hard but I'm sure you were fair. Nope, I certainly can't imagine giving a child a zero. That just seems so heartless.

@LindaOHio When it comes to memorization, they want picky. They have to quote things word for word.

It honestly sounds interesting and fun, too.. And you love children. Yes, I would enjoy something like that. And a person has to read rules, it's just what we have to do to participate in so many things. Just like here at mylot. I remember reading the rules at the beginning, and I still messed up a time or two, I try hard to follow rules, as I know that no matter where or for what, they are there for a reason. And the $75 for two hours is excellent pay, too!

I think it would be a fun thing to do, and I would love to see how the kids did at all their endeavors.
