Hello friends.
As you know I am retired so I live on a budget. It is not a tight one, but I must decide what to buy and what to skip.
Lately I have had lots of extra expenses such as a big faucet and payment to Marco. And Mario came too, to finally fix some problems at the garden. Besides that Martín took me to the beauty shop to cut my hair.
The hairdresser cut off hair and years.
He left me as beautiful as an 80 year old woman can be.
But all that is money. Gone are the days when I left my hair grow as it wanted and my husband tld me it was beautiful.
With all that, I should have dedided to stop spending money. But all day and night I craved for a piece of cake. So today I gave in and ordered an orange cake.
And here I am, writing here to share with you my happiness. Sometimes, extras are not luxuries.

@velvet53 I do try o save though. I turn off the lights when I´m not using them and I fill my washing machine before starting it.

Why did the hairdresser make you look much older than you really are? I would have been very upset with him if he did that to my hair!
Cake is never a luxury! It's always a "need".

The hairdresser, in fact, left me "almost" beautiful.
And I agree that cakes are not luxuries.

I can relate to that since most of my expenses to buy food for the family and pay my health and life insurance bills.

Me too. But once in a while we must give in to small luxuries.

Sometimes it’s nice to cave and spend some money on a want.

When the govern talks about "basic needs" I always think that they have to include something we want.

@marguicha I think chocolate was included in needs.

You deserve to feel beautiful, and if you are really craving cake, you must need it. Enjoy it. Orange cake was my favorite growing up, and you know, I just may make one now that you mention it.

@marguicha - I told to my husband that right now our only little pleasures are food and drinks, it would be silly not to buy what we like to have.

The thing is that I have to buy the entire cake.
But I´ll see if I can freeze part of it.

@marguicha yes, if you buy the whole cake, take a slice and freeze the rest ….you get more treats throughout the year.

I am also retired for years.
I live on my savings only and have to live frugally.
At times, big ticket expenses cannot be avoided.
It was fridge and TV last year. This year it was Cooking Hob and Washing machine.
And inflation hurts retired people more.

For me the worst are the doctors bills. In my country there´s no health insurance that includes meds. And the copay of a bif ailment is difficult to pay.

It's OK to treat yourself once and a while as long as you can afford it. Enjoy your cake!!!

All my luxuries are edibles. So they aren´t very expensive. They are not as if I coveted jewelry or brand garments.

I have to agree with you when you say sometimes extras aren't luxuries. We just need to indulge sometimes and I hope you really enjoyed your cake
