Gold anyone?

The price of gold is way up and fluctuates daily. Today was a bit lower than a couple of days ago, but it’s something I follow. I had a little pouch with a few pieces of old gold jewelry that I haven’t worn in years and some broken which I didn’t even want to have repaired. Today I called 2 shops that accept jewelry, found out the price per gram, and asked hubs (who bought me all the jewelry I have) if he would mind me getting rid of it. He didn’t care. I made an appointment with one of the shops that offered the higher price per gram. They tested to make sure it was real, weighed it, and gave me a higher price per gram, because the price of gold went up since this morning. The owner lives not far from us and wants to go out to dinner with us and his wife, but I will tell you now, we will split the bill. Why? Because I received a check for $10,000 US. It’s already deposited in our bank. This is the most money I’ve ever earned since I retired!!! We were given

It went from 80.40 to over 92 something. The other shop I spoke with quoted me 72.15. I just wanted to get rid it.

@Ineeddentures If it’s heavy and solid gold, it can be a fortune! Go for it, unless it’s sentimental. My husband, back in the day when he bought me the jewelry I got rid of, was a lot less costly. I am positive he didn’t pay anywhere close to what we got for it.

My mom had a huge collection of gold jewelries. Her aunt had the same. I remember each time we visited that particular aunt of hers, they would talk about jewelries and she would show my mom the ones she had at home, as most are in the bank. She had this huge jewelry boxes that contain too many gold jewelries. She advised my mom to keep hers in the bank too but my mom said, each time she'd come home opening her collection of gold and diamond jewelries relaxes her. What happened to those jewelries? Well, they were all taken away by the robbers who eventually killed her and my dad.

Last week I sold some broken jewels that I received from my mother years ago. I made good money selling them. I suppose she broke several golden chains and bracelets when she aged and could not see well. I would never wear those things.

@DianneN - I sold a lot of things we did not need. Everything that was not good enough to be sold was donated to charities.

Glad you sold some things you’d never wear and made some money, too. Why keep them when you can make money?

@LadyDuck It’s necessary when you move from one house to another. I gave my granddaughter baggies filled with lots of my jewelry. She tried each piece on to see how it fit, but I have never seen her wear any of it. . I think the younger kids are into thinner and smaller pieces.

I usually use Kitco, but now I just ask Alexa or Siri the latest closing cost. If you do want to get rid of some random pieces, find out the price per gram the shop is offering.

in India gold is thought to bring luck. Very rarely people sell gold unless any property dealings are involved

Wow! That's a great price. Hubby used to buy gold jewelry many, many years ago. The problem was with people that would come in with stolen jewelry; and we'd have to turn it into the Police Department. We lost a lot of money that way.

That;s cool, I sold some gold once. I got a much better price an hour North of here than they were offering at the jewelry store they used to have here. It pays to shop around.

They all get a cut of course. Last year, we were shopping for me at a jewelry store here, and the owner told me the price of gold was way up, hence the cost of something I was considering. We bought it, but afterwards, I sold him a ring and earrings that I was wearing at the time.
