Ultrasounds of puppies

Our friend’s grand-daughter and her partner have purchased a golden retriever puppy. It’s only just been born and will be coming from the Eastern States. It will an expensive dog with air fares added to the actual price of the dog. It’s a male and is to be called Denzil. What I found amusing though was that they were sent an ultrasound of the puppies in the womb. I guess it helps justify the cost. Golden retrievers are lovely dogs and I’m looking forward to making its acquaintance one day. The photo is from Wikimedia courtesy Pharaoh Hound.

Congratulations. I will be honest: there are tons and I mean tons of good and lovely dogs in shelters crying for homes.

I'm not sure what the congratulations are for. The dog isn't for us. I'd be going for a rescue dog too if I ever wanted one.

Were there no golden retrievers around them where they live? I cannot imagine how expensive that is.

I really don't know but you'd think there would have to be. They're a young couple but perhaps already have a bit more money than sense.

I used to have a golden retriever before. However, he only lived for 8 years. He was so big and adorable.

I've heard that they don't live very long.

You are right Golden retrievers are lovely dogs, my niece had one, a female, named Winnie. She was a lovely but a bit dumb girl (the dog, not the niece).

Just now
@JudyEv They are really not smart, my husband used to look at Winnie and to tell her "you are really a dumb blonde".

I've heard that they're not the smartest dogs around but they seem to have a lovely nature.

That was my thought too but I managed to shut my gaping mouth and keep it shut.

My oldest son has a lovely Golden Retriever. She is well mannered and smart…honestly a person can get purebreds from a rescue, they get relinquished constantly, just like other dogs. The thing he most regrets is that Goldens often don’t live a long life, and they have a tendency towards hip displacement. His girl is 8 years now and gets shots monthly for her hips. She is doing a lot better. I hope your son’s new dog will be a part of his family. I’ve done a lot of rescue work over the years, there are often Goldens and all kinds of purebreds.

I would go for a rescue dog too. We don't know the couple that well and certainly didn't have any input into their choice but it's a shame they didn't check out the shelters.
