National Lighthouse Day is celebrated on August 7th to honor America’s maritime history and the federal preservation of lighthouses.
It marks the anniversary of the Lighthouse Act of 1789, signed by President George Washington, which placed navigational aids under federal control to secure safe shipping routes.
President Ronald Reagan designated the first official day on August 7, 1989, to mark the 200th anniversary of the Act.
Historical societies offer public tours, open towers, and educational programs to teach the public about maritime engineering.
The day recognizes the bravery of past lighthouse keepers who protected ships from treacherous coastlines.

I love lighthouses but haven't had much opportunity to see them in person. The only one I've actually seen is in Wildwood,New Jersey

I've never seen a lighthouse in real life. Only pictures of them.
