Do you consider chili to be a just a winter time food? Are you a soup person?

There are restaurants that sell chili year round, I know. But the friends I have that make their own chili, think it's just for cold weather. Yesterday, my son said ''why has it been so long since we had chili? You always had some in the freezer but not anymore, Mom!'' We talked about the summer/winter debate over chili and I pretty much decided I would make some today. I put on a pot this afternoon, and I will freeze it for fast meals when needed. I also soaked beans all night and made a pot of ham and bean soup to do the same thing with. I made my chili with fresh ground turkey, and it's really good. It was half the price of ground beef. Son declared both soups delicious. Then he asked if we could have homemade chicken and noodle soup when we ate these...of course I said yes. We are definitely soup people! Pinterest picture

The soup is not a thing here because we live in the tropics

I just can’t imagine never having soup, but I guess it’s all what a person is used to and their background. It’s all good.

I think that way only because it is so hot here in the summer. I tend to like lighter foods then. But I have been known to fix a pot of chili in the summer just to have something different! I was thinking about all the good comforting foods of winter the other day. Chicken and dumplings, chili, beef stew; I'm ready for all of those.

My kids love comfort foods. Chicken and dumplings is a huge favorite. My best friend likes chili as much as we do, she called about a week ago to say she couldn’t wait for chili any longer and was making some.

@MarieCoyle I am waiting for the chicken and dumplings!! My all-time favorite! But they have to be home made!! This recipe everyone does with biscuits on top is not the real thing!!

Is chili in the stew category? I only have chili when Diana cooks it, which is usually the winter. I don’t think she has cooked it any other time.

Some people do consider chili a stew. I guess in my family it was considered a hearty soup. Maybe you can ask Diana if she will make chili with you and then you can freeze it, too--if it ever cools off enough there to actually want to cook anything! Good grief, it's been hot where you are!

I don’t think chili has to be only for cold weather. If you enjoy it, there is no reason not to make it at any time of the year. Having homemade soup in the freezer is also very convenient for days when you don’t feel like cooking.

We consider chili a stew, not a soup. I did not make chili very often and only during cooler months.

I haven't had chili in forever. It is a group thing for me. . . and I don't entertain these days.

I haven’t really had any friends over for a meal in a long time. I am never sure lately just how the son will be, or if he will be well enough to be around anyone. I miss that, but we will get back to it. One friend comes by every Thursday, she knows our situation. She lives on a small farm and has a huge garden. She always leaves us something fresh and wonderful in the summertime.

I am definitely a soup person. Bob used to be. Right now he does not seem to care for anything. I do love chili, but have found that freezing it intensifies the spiciness a bit. It is okay with me, though. Homemade is so much better than canned.

I love spicy food so I love chili in almost all my food. It's summer all year long here but I eat food with chili all the time.

I make chili year round and even though it's a good cold weather food I do enjoy it even during the summer months. Soup is another food I eat year round and I also eat ice cream all year too and it's not just for summer Both soups you made sound delicious and I really like ham & bean soup.

I love soup in the winter. Even in the summer for that matter. Chili isn't that popular here. At least I don't think it is. I never used to know what it was but I mostly have the idea now.
