$400, I about had a heart attack.

I felt what I thought was my heart, jerk. I called my pharmacy to check how much my pain medicine would cost when I picked it up today. I got the surprise of my life. The pharmacy said my doctor is no longer contracted with SoonerCare (my insurance) so it would no longer be covered. How much is it? $432! I was gobsmacked. There is no discount card for it, and no pharmacy has it cheaper. GoodRX does not help with it.
Go on vacation without pain medication? I called my doctor, and they said he turned in his recertification, but the state had been slow to renew it. They figured next month they’d be good again. So, I called my dad. Without hesitation, he said he’d pay for it. I assured him it would just be this month. He’s such a good guy. That’s a ridiculous amount of money. It’s not a special medication. If I told you what it was, you’d be like, it costs THAT much?
Oh my word. Any surprises for you today?

Wow, Thank God for dad. I bet your sister would have helped too though. I would have flipped out if I had a 400 bill for a med.

@AmbiePam In my family it would be the opposite. My sister is willing to help out, my parents I would never want to ask. They are cheap. Really, if I need some money, I will generally go to my exes, they are good like that. Sis helped out with the Chicago trip..I didn't ask but she volunteered.

I am grateful that Hurricane Isaias will not come to south Louisiana this evening.

Wow, that's a crazy amount. Sorry they didn't cover it, but glad your dad could help you out.
Not that I can think of at the moment

Wow, that’s stupid. In a lot of ways. And it gives me another reminder to thank God for the VA coverage that I have.

@AmbiePam — I know. A doctor is a doctor is a doctor. Of course, that probably means that the insurance company has “contracted” the doctor to never, ever, EVER prescribe anything that costs over 43c.

That’s dreadful ….i know you gave a lovely Dad who will cover this, but that’s not the point. They should have let you know …that’s an awful lot of money for anyone to find unexpectedly.
Now I am 60 I don’t pay for my prescriptions …thats basic though. I guess if I needed specialist stuff I would have to pay,

That’s like my eye drops for the eyelash mites were over $2000 but I ended up qualifying for a grant that paid for them

Not today, so far. We will see how it goes. I am not due to renew any meds, either.

I can't say I'm surprised that any medication these days is probably more than anyone can afford to pay without insurance, But, having to deal with a surprise like that would have given me a heart attack too, Thank goodness your dad is able to help and hopefully your doctors recertification will come through, Any chance when it does you'll be reimbursed for the money you have to outlay now?

This makes me hurt for you. It happens to us to with the son’s medicine at times and it’s just crazy. When your income is low and your medication is necessary for life, it’s very hard. Thank you Lord for Amber’s Dad!
