Avocado?

The avocado was first domesticated by Mesoamerican (the Southern part of North America and extends to most of Central America) tribes more than 5,000 years ago. Botanically the avocado is a large berry containing one large seed. Mexico is the world's leading producer. Do you like avocados? What is your favorite way to eat them? I've only tasted an avocado twice in my life; and the second time it was overripe and not good at all. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I've tried to eat avocados several times. (One roommate loved them and was always trying to get me to eat them.) The only way I've actually liked avocado was as guacamole spread on egg-in-a-hole my roommate's wife made for breakfast once. (Egg-in-a-hole is thick toast with a hole cut in the center and an egg cooked (fried, I think) in the center of the bread then she spread guacamole on the bread itself. It was delicious!)

@prashu228 I've never tried to make it but I do wish my friend and his wife lived closer so I could ask her how she made it. (Or talk her into making it again. ) It really was delicious.

@DaddyEvil I've never had guacamole and wouldn't eat it if it was made with onions.

We love avocados and always have them on hand! I love guacamole . . . but I can eat them plain too. Yah, overripe is too mushy and gets kinda bitter with the woody strings.

@LindaOHio It is so good and easy to make. Or the easy way is to order it from a restaurant too (but we like homemade better).

I love avocado and when I get them I search for those that are organic and grown in the USA. The reason for wanting USA grown avocado is because customs will spray insecticides on any produce that goes through them and that's something I don't want on my food.

Yes, I am allergic to insecticides and herbicides which is why I only buy organic.

Yeah, avocado tastes like grease to me unless it's made into guacamole, first. That's why I don't like it, normally.

I love avocados and get them as often as I can depending on the price per avocado. I eat them plain, with salsa, and in salads,

@Marty1 the season for avocados is from May to October. They name my store Walmart as one of the best places for avocados when you can get them,

@Marty1 they grow on trees and people can grow them themselves also in flower pots. Here is some information

I like avocadoes but don't have them very often. They are quite expensive here. There are dozens of avocado orchards being planted in the area of our old home. They are predicting there will be glut of them in a few years when they are all fruiting.

@Marty1 We should be able to but sometimes it doesn't seem to work out that way. Maybe they will export a lot more and we'll still have to pay as much as now.

@Marty1 Avocadoes grow on a tree and some people do plant their own. Australia grows too many for the local market and they get a good price for those they export so a lot go overseas.

@Marty1 Not all fruit is low in calories...there's a lot of sugar in some. An avocado has 500 calories in it.

@Marty1 When an avocado is ripe, it shouldn't be too hard to cut. Best to stay away from the knives.

I like avocados, I add them to shrimps salads, I like to make a guacamole and I like to serve sliced with smoked salmon, but also with canned tuna. The best I buy here comes from Peru. I dislike heated or cooked.

I'm not a fan of avocados. They make a good ingredient for body wash or soap! I don't like the texture or taste of it, and I think smashed avocado looks like vomit and doesn't taste much better! It's one of the few fruits I don't like.

I love avocados, but they're really expensive here. Dale bought a jar of avocado dip, but it was too spicy even for me. But I added some sour cream to it and it's yummy with Fritos.

I love avocados. I can eat it by itself, put it in a salad, or even make an omelet with it. I've never tasted a Florida avocado. They are much bigger than regular avocados. Wonder how they taste.

I love guacamole, as long as it is not made with any hot peppers! Just peel and slice up a nice ripe avocado, delicious on a tossed salad or even just plain with a bit of salt. Also, really good on a turkey sandwich and even better on a BLT.
