2/16/24 - Update on My Husband

Yesterday I got a call from another person from the same organization that gave me all that "good" news. We basically went over the same things. This time she wanted to know if I wanted my husband on life support should it come to that. The psychiatrist examined hubby yesterday. He said he has acute cognitive impairment. Whether that's hospital delirium or dementia, we don't know. Hubs did manage to do PT yesterday. That's very good news. If he keeps it up, he's eligible to go to rehab. I'm going to try to talk to his heart doctor today. I know there is something they can do for him...whether insurance will cover it at his age is another matter. Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts and concern. I'm blessed to have such good friends. I had a rough night last night; but I feel better mentally today. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I would go to see him today (if you can) and ask to talk in person with the hospital supervisor. All those phone calls are confusing.

@LindaOHio It is very important, I know that if his heart is only working at 30% there is not a lot that can be done, but his doctor must know.

Linda you are always in my thoughts and my prayers. I thought Americans didn't buy private health insurance coverage, and age had nothing to do with it. The system sucks if you have to buy private coverage. I should think it is hospital delirium. We should know tomorrow. Worrying too much is bad for your health. The last thing your husband needs. Tell yourself he will be alright, and he will be. Hugs.

@wolfgirl569 I see. All that glitters is not gold about America then. Very complex for my tiny brain anyway.

We have to buy insurance here. Medicare is available after you retire but you still are better off carrying what many call an advantage plan. It will cover a lot more than just having Medicare

The life support one is one they often ask so they can have it in their records. It doesn't mean they think he is that bad. I know it's still scary. It sounds like he had a good day

@MarieCoyle They ask me almost every time if I have a living will.

A hospital in Minneapolis asked my Aunt if she had a DNR--when she was in the ER for a broken foot. I think when you hit a certain age in the US, they just ask due to rules and laws and regulations.

@wolfgirl569 Yes, it's a very standard question. I think they are required to ask it, at least in some states? Not sure, I need to look that up.

I hope by now that you have decided to go talk to docs in person. Most importantly I hope you are on your way to visit with your hubby. Many gentle hugs from me.

I hope it's just hospital delirium. He's in rehab now. He tried to get out of bed the first night and they found him on the floor! Sigh.

Have you scheduled an appointment to speak with his medical team? I think that since there are different health issues coming into play, all of which may provide a different outcome, you should have your options explained to you. It has been a very long haul for the both of you, it is time that they explain everything and how his conditions may interact with each other.

It sounds like the staff needs to all be on the same page there. They are causing you a lot of aggravation, upsetting you and giving you conflicting stories. I would call and talk to the supervisor and voice your concerns. Continued prayers for both of you!

I'm still praying that those doctors can actually figure out just what the problem is and either fix it or define it, once either one is done you'll have an easier time getting things that need doing done. I'm also praying that you'll be allowed to stay with him at least for 2 whole days and nights, that's probably the best thing they could do for both of you.
