Another change - Now they are sending my husband to the Main Campus of Cleveland Clinic. It is a zoo down there. Parking will be a problem; and we'll be lucky if we can find him in the maze of buildings. He has blood in his urine; and that problem will be assessed by Internal Medicine at CC. Orthopedics will handle his surgery. Poor guy has been in pain for several days now, waiting for the transfer. Hope they transfer him this weekend.
My SIL will be staying for a few more days. I am going to be so spoiled. I will have to go back to doing things for myself. It's so hard for me to walk around.
Hubby is now eating by himself; but his hands are really weak and uncoordinated. I need to talk to someone about that. Other than that, he has made a remarkable recovery from his "hospital delirium". I think the visits help. I don't know if he will ever be able to drive again; but I definitely see him coming home eventually. I don't know if they are still planning to have a neurologist examine him for possible dementia due to the couple of incidents from 3-4 months ago.
He will definitely need rehab because he's been lying in bed for so long.
Thank you for your continued support.

That "dementia" could be from UTI. I am glad your sister-in-law is being helpful in her visit.

A friend's mother would get that way when she'd have a UTI.

@LindaOHio That is surely another reason why he could have blood in the urine.

@LadyDuck Today his urine was clear. They will still do a workup on him though. He had an ultrasound too.

I hope they make up their mind where they're sending him -- he's not a ping pong ball.

I wish him a speedy recovery .and hope they can get him some physical therapy to help with the strength to get it back in his hands. I know this has been hard for you and you miss him and want him to get better so he can come home.

I hate that for you, because you’ll be absolutely helpless when your SIL leaves. However, it’s one of the best hospitals in the country, and I’m glad he’s in the most outstanding care he can be in.

Me too. If his blood pressure drops in the middle of the surgery, they'd better know what to do.

@Juliaacv It's been a rough month; and I had no idea that he would pull himself out of that deep hole he was in.

Unfortunately we have no choice on the rehab facility. It was the only one that would take him. We didn't try the 1 or 2 star places. I don't want him going to those.

The blood in the urine could indicate a bladder infection.

His cousin comes once a week, sometimes twice. I trust her to do things all around the house.

Cleveland Clinic is a huge place. They would have a place that you can stay very close to your husband, and depending on the circumstances, either very inexpensive or free. It would be handicapped accessible and you could be close by and see him every day. That would help a lot when the sister in law has to leave to go home. Having company every day is helping him, I'm sure.
I hope they can help him at Cleveland Clinic. I'm just sorry it's further away from you, but if it's better care, it's worth it.

I would have to travel back and forth from that place; and I would need someone to push me around in the wheelchair; but thank you for the suggestion. Having our company I'm sure has made a world of difference.

I have a friend who is in a wheelchair. She has a power chair, but it was not working and her husband was in a hospital. She stayed in a hotel right by the hospital, and she asked the hospital if someone would please wheel her back and forth to her husband's room for his time there. They have people that do things like that,in neary every big hospital, but you have to ask, of course. I am sure a hospital as big as that one is, has someone who helps handicapped people. Worth a shot, anyway.

Have you taken Uber before? It might be a solution for you to get back and forth. I know it may be a problem getting there, but CC is probably the most capable place around, and if anybody can get him back home it is probably them.

I think social interaction and loving support go a long way in helping patients recover and get better. We are social creatures, and just being around loved ones can raise someone's spirits, which then boosts their immune system. I hope your husband continues to improve, and I hope you are able to continue going to visit him to give him that moral support and encouragement he needs. And I'm glad your SIL is also there for you to give you the support and encouragement YOU need.

Linda, did they rule out your husband having "mini strokes." That can cause memory issues, confusion, and coordination problems.
Gee, why did it take so long for them to conduct neurological tests. Hospitals suck and just want to do so many tests to run up those medical bills. Just my opinion. Just venting from past experiences. I'm sure they are just trying to be diligent in diagnosing the problem.

They gave him a CAT scan and MRI and assured me he didn't have a stroke. The hospital was pretty good. It was rehab that was lax.
