3/22/24 - Update on My Husband

Hallelujah! A nurse gave her cell phone to my husband; and we had a long conversation last night. I was worried about him; and he was worried about me. He is depressed because he sees all the other residents walking around. I told him that he spent 6 weeks on his back...it's going to take time for him to get his strength back.
He says the food isn't very good. It's all over seasoned. He has the food in his room and doesn't go into the dining room. He said when he is more mobile he will think about going into the dining room. He also mentioned that no one seems to want to respond to the call buttons. It's not like Cleveland Clinic at all. No, it's not..it's a rehab facility. So far he has physical therapy once a day. All his clothes and belongings were still there which was good.
So far it looks like I will be seeing him on Monday and again on Thursday when his Godson comes up from Tennessee.
I am so thankful that I got to talk to him!!!

@LindaOHio My dad's food was super bland and pureed. He hated it. They did allow me to bring in food from home - as long as was pureed. Yah, over seasoned is ick too.

Usually the food is bland; but this food is over seasoned.

YaY, I'm so glad he has at least one good nurse where he is, I hate rehabs and like your hubby couldn't stand the food. Hopefully they'll feed him nutritious foods to help with his healing.@LindaOHio (156395)

I'd feel depressed too about not seeing anyone, and seeing those there able to do what I couldn't. It's not surprising how he feels. I'm glad you'll get to see him twice next week when his godson comes to see him.

I´m glad that he is healthy enough so that he could talk long to you. It seems that our prayers and support are helping
Hospital and all medical facilities food in my country are always very bad, even in the most expensive clinics. It seems that they specialize in cooking bad food. When I was in chemo and discovered that the nurses ate that same food, I took small sandwiches to share with them. They in turn, gave me a hot mug of tea

@LindaOHio Leticia made me delicious tiny sandwiches to take. After I learned how badly these murses and aides were treated, I just wanted to share.

I'm glad you could talk to him. No, rehab is not like a normal hospital. It can be frusterating. It wasn't much fun for George. At least he's eating.

So glad you were able to talk to him. I bet that did wonders for him, and for you as well. I can imagine it is still tough for the both of you to have to go through this, but with time I think things will get better and hopefully he can return home. I am sure there is no other place he'd rather be.

I am very glad to read that you got to talk to your husband. I am sure that helps you both. Is his physical therapy helping him yet? I do hope he can sit alone and has been able to raise his head better. What a long and drawn out journey this has been for both of you!

It will be a while until he can stand and walk on his own. They had him sitting in a chair for several hours which wore him out. Yes, I can't believe it's been 7 weeks of this so far.

Yes, it will be quite the journey for him, and for you. Unfortunately, there is no hurrying to the path of wellness, slow and steady and he will get there.
