Weed guy came yesterday and spread the Preen in the flower bed. The Preen I bought will keep weeds away and fertilize the plants. Gravel guy stopped by with his son to measure the flower bed and gave me an estimate for mulch. It was twice what the weed guy quoted; so we won't be doing business together. In the stop by the house and two phone calls, no dinner was mentioned. Looks like that connection has evaporated. He did show me his pacemaker scars and patted me on the shoulder. lol Today weed guy and the landscaping woman will come and spread the mulch. I'd hate to tell you what this is costing. Way too much. There are thunderstorms approaching from the west. We should get rain some time today. It's really dry here. Breakfast - Protein bar Lunch - Meals on Wheels - Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, roll, tropical fruit Dessert/Snack - Lemon blueberry muffin Dinner - Turkey/Provolone sandwich, generic Cheetos, ice cream bar What did you eat yesterday? We got some rain yesterday, so it was good to snuggle with some hot milk and Skyflakes for breakfast. Lunch and dinner were the same - pancit palabok ( Filipino Rice Noodles with Shrimp Sauce).

The forecast shows rain here for the next week. Whether we get it or not is anybody's guess. (My city often gets rain that the surrounding countryside doesn't get because of our elevation.) I ate a can of chicken and stars soup for breakfast, no lunch and a can of beef, broccoli and cheese soup for supper. My tummy is still rumbling and I've spent too much of my day sitting in the bathroom. If I can, I'd like to go out and mow part of the yard in the morning... We shall see what happens.

I remember eating chicken and stars soup when I was little. Remember when I had my gastro difficulties? It lasted 8 days; and I have no idea why. And I know that it's no fun. Sorry you're still dealing with it.

Gravel guy still sounds as if he is interested to me. No harm in going out for a dinner sometime. I hope you can take a picture of the flower bed sometime so we can see how it looks!

@MarieCoyle Yes I know it's not a commitment; but he hasn't mentioned it again. It could be because he still has to take it easy. Maybe some time in the future he will call.

@LindaOHio Well, a dinner is not a commitment, just a chance to make a friend and have a nice meal. I remember you said that you told him you would think about it...it would do you good to go out and have a nice dinner. No harm in that at all. If you are in the background of the picture, that would be even better.

They come in a package of 4. I have a package of 4 triple chocolate muffins; but that was not my choice. They substituted them for the Banana Chocolate Chunk muffins.

I wonder if the gravel guy should even be doing so much after having the pacemaker put in. Yesterday was Thursday, we have pizza for supper on Thursday nights from a cool place not too far from here. It was good.

@LindaOHio If he is back to work, he really has no regard for his health and that is frightening when you think that there are only so many cardiac unit beds, so many hours that cardiologists can work and tend to their patients, and the patients have the obligation (in my opinion) to follow the instructions given to them. My brother-in-law had a triple by-pass last November, and he told my hubs and I privately that it hurt terribly and he felt weak after he woke up. His room-mate had the same surgery a few days earlier and wouldn't get up out of bed, and my brother-in-law saw that and decided he would get up and work as hard as he could. The doctor told him to walk to get his groceries, imagine in the cold winter, with bags of groceries, yet he did that, and he got stronger. And God-willing, he will be with us for more years as a result.

@Juliaacv I don't know how long gravel guy was supposed to not do anything. He showed me both pacemaker incisions. The new one looks like it's healing well. I'm glad your BIL decided to get strong and get out of bed. My hubby had bypass surgery around 2004 (?). It was tough; but he did what he was told and lived until this year. His heart had nothing to do with his demise.

I have such a taste for pizza. I think gravel guy's son drove him over to my house. I asked him how he was doing; and he said OK. I doubt he is back to work yet.

Workers quote a fortune for the products and materials they intend to use. I remember when we installed a water fountain in the garden. When I received the bill from the gardener I was shocked. At least we had a photo with the price of that fountain, 4 times less the price he asked.

@LindaOHio - When we bought the house we still did not live in Switzerland, we hired an architect (good honest man), he was the first one to make us notice that they were overcharging.

Wow! Contractors will take advantage if you let them. A widow is a prime target for people to overcharge. That's why I like to get at least a couple of quotes for each job.

So far we haven't decided if we're even going to mulch this year. I'd like to, but we're getting late into "the season," and got a late start to yard stuff because of all of the rain, so...we'll see. But we can get the whole yard and around the pool mulched for about $100. Of course, we're doing the work if we do it. For dinner I made baked chicken thighs with a foil zucchini and onion combo with butter and seasoning and had a cold pasta tuna salad on the side. Good eats.

With tax, the mulching came to $909.50. Chew on that for a while!!! And he was $600 cheaper than the gravel guy. They spread some Preen again too.
