Plain Donuts...

Pretty LOVES plain donuts and will buy a box of 12 of them when we grocery shop. (I buy two apple fritters for myself.) Unfortunately, the 12 donuts she buys don't always have a plain glaze on them. The box of donuts she bought a few days ago also included 3 donuts that had chocolate icing on them... Pretty won't eat those. She brought those 3 donuts to me a little while ago. I LIKE chocolate icing on plain donuts. Do you like plain glazed donuts? Photo is not mine but is plain glazed donuts.

Weird, I never had one for breakfast, but I had a plain donut this morning, I only dusted with powdered sugar. Those things are so filling, I imagine I will skip lunch.

Usually, I want something on them or they taste like bread, which can be good... I don't think they're that filling, to be honest.

@DaddyEvil I found that large donut too filling, but I usually have a very light breakfast. I prefer our Berliner, that are similar to donuts but filled with custard.

@LadyDuck Those filled with custard are called Boston Creme filled donuts here. I don't like them but Pretty does.

Mom used to make donuts for us when I was growing up and rolling them in powdered sugar. They were really good!

I don't care for the glaze on donuts or the icing they have on cinnamon rolls. They always have scads of it too. My favorite type of donut you can't find very often anymore. It's a cake donut and then rolled in sugar and cinnamon. Only a few places make them now.

@DaddyEvil ......they always had icing, no options. We get the frozen container and bake them. Not real good but they work in a pinch.

We have those kinds of donuts at the Walmart here. I prefer cinnamon rolls with icing on them but will eat them plain once in a while. (Do you get the plastic boxes of little cinnamon rolls without icing there? We have them with or without icing here.) Mom used to make donuts with powdered sugar mixed with cinnamon on them. Those are good, too.

@celticeagle I know every Walmart is different but I didn't know that included whether cinnamon rolls in the bakery had icing or not was a thing they'd pay attention to. I'm sorry you can't get the ones in the bakery like that.

@rakski Oopsie! I ate two of the chocolate covered donuts yesterday and ate one today. You could have come over and I would have shared with you. But it's too late now... We COULD still go get more if you come over... I'd even be willing to buy you any kind of donuts you want from the selections we have here. (There is a new donut shop in our city but Pretty and I haven't been there yet. You and I could go raiding that shop and see how many we can eat before they kick us out. )

I love plain doughnuts when they are made fresh, that's my little treat when we got to a fair for example. When they are ready-made and cold I'm not so keen, and I'm not that keen on any sort of icing or glaze on them.

I think we Indians eat too much sugar. That is why we are fat in wrong places. Powdered sugar...blink. I will settle for sponge vanilla cake any day. Just that I have egg allergy...sigh.

@vandana7 I KNOW Americans eat too much sugar... But, I am losing weight so I'm doing something right. Eating a donut or two once in a while is okay, in my opinion. (I lost another 15 lbs/6.8 kg in July.) Have you ever eaten sponge cake with crushed and sweetened strawberries on it. That's delicious! It would be worth having an allergic reaction to eat strawberry shortcake.

I'm like Pretty, I want some type of glaze or icing on mine. When I was a kid, mom made cake-style donuts and rolled them in powdered sugar for us. They were delicious when they were still hot but too greasy if they got cold.

@porwest I always keep a small amount of candy, like Tootsie Rolls and Malted Milk Balls in my closet. I eat a few when I'm really wanting candy but, when Pretty runs out of candy, she raids my stash and then I have to buy more. She can't eat a few and leave the rest alone. She eats everything she can find all at once. That drives me crazy. When I complain I don't have any candy, she tells me I can always buy more... I can't see to drive to the store all the time, though.

They really are very good. You'd be welcome to come visit and we could see what kind of donuts you like best. There is a new donut shop in our little city that makes all kinds of them. (We might try so many that we'd pop before trying all the kinds they have. )

I will only have a donut every few years, I like them, but they are so heavy. I prefer the little jelly filled ones. There used to be a place in a town about 25 minutes from where we used to live that had the best Long John donuts ever. I would get one every year when we went to that town to drop off our income tax papers to the accountant to do up.

I like plain ring doughnuts, doughnuts with sugar coating or ball doughnuts with jam in the middle ( they have a sugar coating too ). When I make my own I make mini ones and do half with just sugar coating and half with sugar and cinnamon coating.

If I am going to eat a donut it has to be a Boston creme. That being said most of the time I skip them because the heartburn they cause isn't worth it. I hate when we have payday coffee/breakfast at work and they serve just donuts.

@NJChicaa Fresh fruit is always good, too. I only eat certain brands of yogurt. Pretty always buys the really thick kind (Greek yogurt) and I don't like it. Hiland brand is usually good, though. I like their cherry flavored yogurt.

Pretty usually buys Boston Creme donuts. I don't know why she didn't day before yesterday. When Walmart bought breakfast for us, I hated just being offered donuts. I want eggs and sausage biscuits, at least.

Of course you'd say that Dearheart. To try donuts with us is another reason you should come and visit us, at least... Stay for a while or forever would be your choice... The ones in the picture aren't made from cake batter, though. Without icing, they're just very plain bread.

Those are sooo good! I just found out that they have apple filled donuts with glaze or powdered sugar on them. The donut lady said they have those every day but one guy comes in and buys them all. I got lucky and he didn't show up so I got two of them. They are delicious!

Yes, I like donuts—glazed, chocolate icing, and all sorts of flavors and toppings. I enjoy almost all of them… except Butternut. I used to make donuts at home too—just the simple kind, rolled in sugar. I don’t make them as often now, but it brings back sweet memories. When we were little, my mom used to make donuts for us and roll them in powdered sugar—or sometimes just plain granulated sugar—and we loved them so much. It was such a treat back then.

I like most kinds of donuts and mom used to make them for us when I was a kid. She'd roll them in powdered sugar, powdered sugar with cinnamon mixed with it or a homemade icing on them. I remember them being sooo good! I've never made donuts myself. I don't like working with grease. I always burn myself when I fry anything with grease... It pops me.
