Something Odd This Morning...

I was lying on my bed this morning, reading an ebook on my phone when the doorbell rang. It was 4:15 am... The only light on in the house is a nightlight in the hallway between our bedrooms and the bathroom. I looked out my bedroom window to see if there was a car pulled up and there wasn't anything outside. Our yard is lit up with a yellow porch light and the streetlight down the street at the Mexican restaurant. I opened the front door and there was nobody there. Pretty walked up behind me and asked who rang the doorbell. I told her there wasn't anyone there. I stepped out on the front porch and looked down the street both directions and couldn't see anything/anybody moving around. If I was dreaming the doorbell rang, Pretty wouldn't have gotten up to answer the door...

I will probably not going to open any door if someone rang the doorbell at 4.15am actually.

@DaddyEvil Ah now I know what you meant. I will peep through my electronic door viewer. Most of the time there will not be anyone disturbing us or anything at night.

@id_peace It's really rare for us to have anyone at our door and never in the middle of the night.

I only opened the inside door and left the outside door closed until I saw there was nobody out there.

I would have freaked out at that time of the morning and might have even called 911.

We still have no explanation for the doorbell ringing at that time of the morning. The only traffic on our street at that time is usually the trash truck or someone leaving for work early in the morning. I thought it might be one of the neighbors having car trouble and needing a ride to work. But they would have surely waited the minute or two it took me to reach the door after the doorbell rang if that was the case.

The storm door was still between me and whoever after I opened the inside door. With Pretty behind me, I had no worries at opening the inside door to look and see who/what was there.

How strange. Sounds like some paranormal entity got their dates wrong. All Souls Day is on the 31st, not the 26th. Silly entity.

@celticeagle I haven't watched television in about 20 years now. We have a television but it's only hooked up to one of Pretty's gaming systems and to a VCR/DVD/Blu-ray player. I used to watch Molder and Scully back in the day and enjoyed that.

Someone getting into the "spirit" of Halloween and playing pranks on you? Or some other outside noise from a person passing by that sounded like your doorbell?

@DaddyEvil Could something electronically activate your door bell? Where we lived before we started having a lamp come on in our bedroom around 2:30 some mornings. It was plugged into a remote switch. One of our neighbors would come home about that time and hit his garage door opener, which evidently also turned on our remote switch.

@GardenGerty I don't think so. It's an extremely old doorbell built into the wall of our house. It doesn't even have all of its parts anymore. When I was in my twenties, we lived in a house that had some problems. Every time a police vehicle went past the house, our back door light would flicker on and off... Sometimes the police would park across the street from us and watch the light go on, off, on, off.... They thought it was funny. I switched the bulb but it still did that so took the bulb out.

The doorbell is wired directly into the house electricity. We've lived here for almost 9 years and this is the first time it has made a sound without someone being at the door. I opened the inside door to look out and opened the outside door so I could step out and look up and down the street.

I’ve had that happen more than once in my house. I’d hear the doorbell ring but look out the window and there’s no one there. And then I’d go and open the door just to check if maybe someone is on the porch, which you can’t see from the upstairs window, to find no one there. It’s a mystery.

So you opened the door at 4:15 a.m. to greet the void, and the void politely declined. Pretty materialized like a summoned witness, confirming the event, but offering no resolution. No car, no person, just the ambient glow of a Mexican restaurant and a hallway nightlight conspiring to stage a psychological thriller with no budget and no antagonist. Honestly, it sounds like your house is trying to develop sentience and this was its first attempt at communication. Or...you just got a very ambitious, early rising ring runner. lol

I would have called the ghost that scares the living sh*t out of me when I wake up and see her sitting on my bed watching me sleep was the first line of attempted communication... That really irritated me when she first started watching me. Pretty was SURE I was having a mental breakdown until she saw the ghost watching me in the kitchen when I was chopping veggies.

@Nevena83 We do have a ghost that lives here. Usually, she sits on the side of my bed and watches me when I sleep. I wake up and move or say something and she gets up and walks out of my room through the closed door. This happens all the time since we moved into this house. Sometimes she stands in a corner of our kitchen and watches me chopping veggies.

Oddly enough ! It is said that an electronic doorbell will ring automatically due to electromagnetic wave interference, strong wind or induction.

Very strange indeed ....that's one of the reasons I made sure we replaced Mom's bell with a nosey screen so that you can see....and talk to ...whoever is at the door before you open it. If your situation had happened to either of us we would have been freaked out by it.

I've noticed women freak out more than most men do when something like that happens. Nobody on our porch and, after I opened the storm door, too, I could look up and down the street both directions and didn't see anybody/anything moving outside.
