Disturbing Situation

I am a bit down in the dumps. I got a call Saturday morning from a family member. They invited us to a last minute family get together. They had out of town company coming that canceled at the last minute and they had a big dinner planned. We had plans already and I had to decline. I found out that one family member was not invited. All of the rest of my family members were invited and went. I would have felt uncomfortable going and finding out that this one person didn’t get invited. This doesn’t set well with me and even worse only my husband and I feel this was wrong. This family member has always been included. I pray that they never find out about the dinner. I am sick to my stomach over what happens throughout the holidays. This is a first and so unlike my family. Frankly I am ashamed of them all.

Thanks, I just wish I knew if this was the new norm . I am the eldest in my family now and I’m shocked that all the family is okay with this.

Did you ask them why the family member had not been invited ? There may have been a reason…..

I spoke with the one who told me and the reason didn’t make sense.

I actually spent time with them that day and several times this week. They were clueless. Thank God. Also, one of my family members explained that it was an intentional thing. I was mortified.

I am sorry about this. It is never nice to exclude anyone..especially family.

@snowy22315 Whatever it was is still in my opinion wrong to do family this way.

This family member does not deserve to be ostracized. If anyone has an issue with them why not let them know. I love them all and really can’t imagine that any of them would be okay with this. It really stinks.

I'm sorry that happened.
Pretty and I aren't invited to a lot of family stuff but we never want to go so don't care that they don't invite us anymore.

I don’t want to go to some either. I love them all, but some have parties that aren’t for me.

@Tampa_girl7 Some people are annoying and we don't want to be around them.

It makes sense that the situation is weighing on you—exclusion, especially within a family that’s normally inclusive, never feels right. And you’re not wrong for feeling uneasy; it shows you value fairness and kindness. At the same time, family dynamics can get complicated, and sometimes people make decisions without fully realizing the emotional impact.
You did what felt right for you by declining, and that speaks well of your integrity. Hopefully this was just a one-off lapse in judgment on their part and not a sign of how things will be going forward. For now, try not to carry the whole weight of it alone—you can’t control others’ choices, only how you respond. And your response shows both empathy and respect for everyone involved.

Could it be that they forgot? I wonder why they did that. It was very rude.

Maybe you could find out why. But everyone should have been invited

Gee that does sound weird especially if they had always been included all the other times. Maybe it was an oversight?

That would put anyone down in the dumps. It's always such a shame when families split for whatever reason.

I am so sorry. To know that someone was left out, for whatever reason, isn't good. Like you, I hope they never find out they were left out.

I'm sorry to hear you are down in the dumps. I would be ashamed too. That is so sad. Families can be so weird sometimes.

Virtual hugs that is a very heavy situation and I sure hope they never find out.
