Do you have plans for Easter?

If you are Christian then today is Palm Sunday and next Sunday is Easter. My family isn't particularly religious--never has been. Sure we celebrate Christmas and Easter but they are more like secular holidays along the lines of Thanksgiving for us. My mother told me today that they aren't doing an Easter dinner this year. My niece has a field hockey tournament in Delaware over the weekend and there just won't be enough time for them to whip together a full meal. I told them that they could always order one of those pre-made dinners or we could just go out. Nope. So we won't all be getting together. It is fine. The kids will enjoy their Easter baskets from my sister/BIL, and from my mother and her best friend. 3 Easter baskets for each of them! Spoiled kids! Do you have Easter plans?

@Ineeddentures There’ll be plenty of Cadbury eggs for sure. Nobody is buying them as they aren’t chocolate anymore, just full of crap.

We get the blessed palm branch yesterday. We have no plans for Easter. I am pretty sure we will stay home, I will prepare a nice meal for us.

@LadyDuck I’m not familiar with that. Is it a Catholic tradition? My mother’s family were all Catholic’s, but I don’t recall ever seeing such things.

@Orson_Kart - The Priest in Church blesses the branches of palm that are then distributed to the people attending the Mass. Once blessed palm branches become holy objects meant to draw us closer to God. This is an example of how they look.

I’m not religious, but I always accepted the paid days off given to me by the companies I worked for at the time. Good Friday and Easter Monday meant a long weekend, which was gratefully received. Now I’m retired it doesn’t have the same appeal. However, I do like chocolate, so will treat myself to some chocolate eggs. They are much more expensive, and less chocolatey, than they used to be. So I’ll probably just buy 2 instead of the usual half a dozen. I am boycotting Cadbury, so it’ll have to be the more expensive ones.

I will go across the street to my great-aunt's house. My cousin will be there, but I don't know how many of other family will be over there. My boyfriend Chris was supposed to have come down, but he said money is tight because a tree fall on part of his house. He is ok.

Yes, we will go to Guthrie, Oklahoma. My brother is a pastor. We do have a religious celebration with church on Sunday morning. My nieces and their families will be there. Maybe some nephews as well and Rosie my great-great niece. I feel it is important to visit this year because Bob is declining and we want to visit while we can.

We'll be in a small town where they crank up an old WWII searchlight. There was a huge army camp there during the war. It's now a museum.

That is too bad, since you didn't see them for Christmas. I used to get 3 Easter baskets as a kid..one from my mom and dad and one each from the grandparents. As we got a bit older though my one grandma would give us those chocolate covered large eggs and my other grandmother got us presents.

No, we don't. We barely do anything for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I just make a bigger than normal meal for those holidays. Easter is just another day for us. I hope you made something special for yourself and maybe your ex for Easter dinner. I'm sure he'd enjoy that.

It will be odd Easter for us. We are going to drive to our friends for a writer's meeting. They said they don't do anything for Easter so I will bring some form of a snack and she says it is easy to make muffins. Mostly just sharing time in a rural setting and an old trailer. Then maybe home to our own treats. AND will not forget to read The Piper from the Gates of Dawn chapter- the Wind in the Willows poignant pagan chapter.

We had originally planned to be with my daughter and son in law for Easter. But his Dad took a bad turn and they are heading up to Chicago to see about him, so nothing is for sure now. If we are home, just me and the son, we will be OK. We won't have anything fancy or special but I will cook and try to make it nice for my son. I am sorry you are not going to get together this year. When I was little, one of my grandmothers made my sister and I both Easter dresses and cookies like bunnies and chicks. The other grandmother always bought us a book and some candy. Then we hunted eggs at one of their houses. I honestly don't remember baskets of candy.
