Rush Limbaugh: "I Hope Obama Fails!"

This is NOT a case of being "taken out of context" by the hated "liberal media"; these are his words and he's actually proud of them. http://www.republicansforobama.org/?q=node/5263 Here are his exact words; he said this: "...but I've been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don't want them to succeed." ...and this... "Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails." (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here's the point. Everybody thinks it's outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, "Oh, you can't do that." Why not? Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don't care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails." Somebody's gotta say it." I've said many times that I hate it when ANYONE is called "anti-American" or anything like that, that the only time I feel that kind of name-calling is justified is if you're referring to a known terrorist. I've now added another exception - RUSH LIMBAUGH!! He wants our new President to fail so he wants AMERICA to fail and he wants AMERICANS to fail, simple as that. He's living in his land of make-believe where nothing can hurt him, so why should he care what happens to others in the nation or in the world? OK, I'm done with my rant for the moment. Any thoughts? I have a couple of important items on my list of don'ts--both designed to promote my personal health and well-being. 1. If at all possible, never listen to Rush Limbaugh. He really has nothing interesting or important to say. It's all just rage of one sort or another. 2. Never read Ann Coulter. Ditto.

How can he?! This is the first time I've wanted anyone to be silenced, as I don't believe in censorship, but this guy's gone way too far. How can he say liberalism has anything to do with the mess Bush's conservative cronies and policies made of America. Several times, our former president made me feel embarrassed to be an American. This guy has a right to express himself, but I'm ashamed that any American could spout such hateful bile. It would be great if her were denied his forum by his sponsors!

Do you listen to Rush on a regular bases? If you do then you know he isn't hateful only opinionated, just like you.

What mess did the Bush conservative cronies make? How did Bush make you feel embarrassed to be an American? And I'll have to say you take the cake with that "I'm ashamed that any American could spout such hateful bile." What hateful bile? All Rush said was that he would like to see Obama fail. It's not as though he call Obama a traitor, nor accused him of treason, nor has he hoped Obama would be assassinated, all of which liberals have done to George W. Bush. So where do you get off calling Rush's remark "hateful bile"?

Excellent question! With the people who are the most famous for spreading the conservative word I don't know how they could ever get any new "recruits". They've got Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Savage, O'Reilly (the least "evil" among them...lol). What a line-up! Annie

If it wasn't for these men and others like them, we'd never get the other point of view. Let's face it, most people in this country are not well enough informed to figure out when they're being sold a bill of goods and getting both the liberal and conservative views helps them may up their mind. Most of the major newspapers are liberal in their views and reporting, as are ABC, CBS, and NBC and their affiliates. Conservative talk radio and FOX News help balance things out. Of course if the Democrats have their way, conservative talk radio may soon be a thing of the past.

"Of course if the Democrats have their way, conservative talk radio may soon be a thing of the past." That is just a myth, no doubt spread around by right wing talk radio and Fox News. The Democrats in general are not in favor of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine. As far as being getting informed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, that's what's scary, some people think what they hear from him is actually true. Annie

I didn't support Bush after the patriot act, and the lying leading up to the war in Iraq. My patriotism has been questioned many times, and I have heard Rush do the same of people that didn't agree with him. Now it seams that Rush is the one that wants our country to fail, and should be considered unpatriotic. But, I am sure that you will never hear those who questioned liberals patriotism, question that of Rush. I think Rush was very happy to see Clinton elected so his rating would go up. But, when Clinton turned the Reagan recession around, and created a budget surplus he knew that he had to find away to destroy him, because if Clinton turned the economy around it could totally destroy the conservative party. Rush has been working his whole life pushing what he believes in, and attacking everything that he doesn't, no matter if country is better or not. I wonder what it is like to work your whole life supporting your country, and destroying it? Maybe Rush is an Al Qaeda sleeper cell agent?

I heard what Rush said, and I didn't get that he wanted Obama or America to fail. He was speaking of Obama's policies, and the so called stimulus package that has so much junk in it, that will not help the economic situation here - but will make it worse. Why doesn't a liberal/pro-democrat start a talk show? Doesn't make sense that they'd not get their five dollars worth out each day. And I think it's so foolish for folks say that they were "lied to" about the WMDs in Iraq. The weapons "were" there. With all the bru-ha-ha going on before the war actually started, there was plenty of time for the WMDs to be shipped out on 707s and 18 wheelers, into Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon and a few other countries. this statement was made by Sadam's former top military general in an interview, that I heard a few years back.

I don't think those are anti-American sentiments. He makes it clear that he wants Obama to "fail" in the sense that he does not want him to succeed in doing what he says he is going to do. There are a lot of things that he says he is going to do that I hope he fails in as well. Just because the president does not achieve his goals does not mean that America fails. People put WAAAYYYY too much weight on the role of president. Honestly, there have been president who sucked that did not run America into the ground. There have been presidents who sat on their hands while America prospered. If Obama fails, some people might see that as a good thing, because that means that the policies that he makes that some people are afraid of will not come into being.

FDR. Very, very few of the policies that he wanted to help turn the Depression around actually worked. They gave people hope, just like Obama's intentions give people hope, but in truth if you judge him by the success of his policies, he failed. And you know why? Because the president doesn't have all that much to do with the prosperity of the country! Eight years is not enough to fix everything, and if you expect him to fix the world you will be disappointed. Does that not mean he will have failed? He isn't meeting expectations, right? I'm not defending Rush Limbaugh. I hate the guy. He's a loud-mouth who doesn't think before he speak. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here. I disagree with the statement that hoping Obama fails is un-American. The same people would have said that supporting Bush was un-American. In fact, the same people probably said they were ashamed to be American BECAUSE of Bush, but no one called THEM un-American. I am just tired of the fact that it seems like you are only patriotic nowadays if you support Obama.

I'm not surprised. I stated almost a week ago that he would feel this way and I didn't have to hear him say it. It's just the kind of person he is. There are plenty like him on both sides. From day one in 2001 there were no shortage of liberals praying for Bush to fail and they only ceased that briefly after 9-11. Either way, he's preaching to people that feel the same way he does. You'll always have that element in this country on both sides.

Well he's been around a long time and has built up a following so he can get away with more than some. Either way this is specifically why I argued when you compared him to Glenn Beck because Beck said exactly the opposite. He said what I say, and that is that while I disagree with his methods, I truly want him to be a successful president because what's bad for the president is bad for the country. Those that kept praying for Bush to fail got their wish and now we have a recession. I hope the granting of that wish makes them feel better should they be unemployed or get foreclosed on.

I used to listen to him but once I was onto his game, I shut him off. I call him Rush Windbag. He doesn't love this country as he should. I understand why he doesn't like Obama's policies because the prez is way too socialist for me. But what we see on the campaign trail is different than what we see on the job. Prez Obama needs to be given a chance and I hope he's the greatest prez we've ever had. I didn't vote for him, he scares me, but he's in office and I support him 100% until and if he does something I think isn't in the interest of the country. So far, I like what I see. People like Rush Windbag are what will bring this country down--partisan jerks who care for their party more than their country.

I don't hate them. I wish they'd be jailed for treason or something, because they're bringing down this country. Obama said something about that, too. On his first full day he said public service isn't about self service or getting your buddies contracts, etc. and if you don't want to serve the public, get out. Good for him! I hope he means it.

I think that, as a country, we should know by now that Rush Limbaugh is full of s**t At one time, I understand that there were those that listened to what he had to say, but at this point, as he has proven himself, over and over, to be a moron, he simply can't be taken seriously anymore. Anything he has to say is merely background noise.

"Saying the President is wrong is not disrespecting him." No, it's not but we were certainly told it was for the past few years. We were told we couldn't support our troops if we didn't support the President's war policies, etc. and I can tell you first hand that's bull since I have three nephews in the military, two of whom recently came home from Afghanistan. The other things you mention are disgraceful no matter who does it or whom it's done to. The "liberals" who did things like that don't represent me or any of the other liberals I know. Annie

"The "liberals" who did things like that don't represent me or any of the other liberals I know." annie, you have defended Jack Murtha on this very forum for calling US Marines "COLD BLOODED KILLERS". When they had not even been given their Constitutiuonal right to a fair trail. How much milage do you think that a recruiter for Al Queda could get from the statements of a High Ranking Senior US Senator calling US Marines "COLD BLOODED KILLERS". Is that what you call "supporting our troops"? Does it "support our troops" To re elect him?

Well he is not the only one that feels this way. A lot of people do not agree with his policies. They agree that the ecomony needs to turned around...just not how Obama wants to do it. Basically him and other people like him do not like Obama's plans for this country and so therefore they hope he fails because they do not want to live under those policies. I am not saying it is nice to hope that, because it isn't. But I will be honest...I will give Obama the benefit of the doubt. WHen he does good I will praise him, when I do not like something he or congress are doing I will not only critize it but also contact my elected officals to try to stop it from passing a vote in congress ( I have done that with every president). But rather than say I want Obama to fail I am going to say I want certain bills NOT TO PASS. For example...I did not want Bush to fail...but I did want the partriot act to fail (still working on that one).

I don't think anyone disagrees with your sentiments. I think the difference is the approach between you and Rush. I want the President to be successful. I strongly believe the head of state is representative of this country. The failure of the Bush Administration was directly tied to him. The perspective of the world regarding this country was directly tied to the world view of Bush, right or wrong that is the way it is. I want Obama to succeed because I want this nation to succeed. Like you though I will not give him a free pass. Where there are issues I will hold him and my government officials accountable and I will freely and quickly write to voice my opinion. Always have and always will. I personally have heartburn with the nearly trillion dollar stimulus package, don't think it is well vetted and have already contacted my representatives to let them know my opinion. But to say I want the President to fail, that is just disturbing. It is talking heads like Rush that give all Republicans a bad name.

Rush Limbaugh is doing what he does best. Loudly expressing his opinions to anyone that will listen. The more unpopular his views the more outraged listeners (but listeners nonetheless) he will have. Well I look at it this way.....I am by no means a Democrat but if our president is successful than our country should be successful. If he succeeds in creating more jobs, stabilizing the housing market, lowering the deficit and improving our worldwide popularity than it is good for all of us. My wife puts Rush in the same category as Howard Stern. She doesn't listen to either of them and no matter what they say she chalks it up to sensationalism. Maybe just this once she is right.

I saw that but (and I'm not defending him) but he said that he hopes he fails if he doesn't keep the integrity of America and the basis of what this country is built on. In other words, if he turns America into a socialist state, he hopes that fails. It was taken out of context because I'm not sure that most people saw everything he said. I hope he fails too if he plans to turn America into a socialist state.

Hi, aniepa, your indignation can be understood. Limbaugh is perturbed at the thought that Obama may undo some of what his (Obama's) predecessor has done.'The Congress swiftly cleared hundreds of billions of dollars for banks and insurance giants in the so-called bailout. But it grudged and fought every cent of the 14.5 billion given to the auto companies. Why? Because they are one of the last holdouts of the organised labour.Workers and trade unions in those companies had already given up many benifits and made major concessions even before the meltdown began. But the bailout was most generous with a gang that used even public money to hand out rewards to corporare executives, some of whom ought to have been in prison. The banks laughed all the way to the banks.' 'And what about these big corporations role?ACCORDING TO THE GOVT.ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE,two-thirds of corporations of America PAID NO INCOME TAX BETWEEN 1998 AND 2005.THESE INCLUDE A FOURTH OF ALL LARGE COMPANIES.THAT IS THOSE WITH AT LEAST $250 MILLION IN ASSETS OR $50 MILLION IN RECEIPTS.And despite all these corporations collectively reporting trillions of dollars in sales. 'Indeed profits were on record highs. By 2006, they made up a historic 14.1 per cent of the nation's total income.Yet,asTHE NEW YORK TIMES says, " the percentage of these profits paid out in taxes is near its lowest since the 1930s," 'Enough to have one wit declare that America had moved from the historic slogan of "No taxation without representation" to "Representation with no taxation". The people of America voted Obama with the belief that he will bring in a great change in all this.It will cause enormous and exceedingly dangerous frustration if he does not bring in this change. Not only the American people, but so many, many outside America, are looking forward for this change. They, like you, and UNLIKE LIMBAUGH,HOPE OBAMA WILL NOT FAIL.

Limbaugh is one of the few who did better under Bush so all he's concerned about is that his taxes will go up a bit although he'll still have more money than he'll ever know what to do with.
