Stepping Into The Unknown...

Portal... - Portal...

This discussion is just for fun but I was wondering what you would do if you happened upon a portal in your home or on your property. A portal to another dimension, time or world. You have no idea where it goes or if you could get back if you went through. It could take you to paradise or it could take you to a world ruled by grasshoppers. It could take you to a land like Alice In Wonderland found or it could take you to an uninhabited world where you’re the only person there. It could take you a thousand years in the future or a hundred years into the past. The curious side of me says I’d definitely go through to find out where it went and hope for the best. The sentimental side of me says that I could never leave behind those I love for a what if world. Mine would definitely be a moment of truth situation. I think I’d try sending something through first to see what happened and if anyone answered me. Maybe tying a rope around me would be a good idea if I chose to go…that way I could follow the rope back if I needed to. Would you go through? What do you think would lay on the other side? What precautions if any would you take? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

The only reason I'd go through any portal anywhere is if I could return to my present time because, like you, I don't want to leave my family and friends behind. However, it would be so cool to take what I know and all the medical advances and technology advances and take it to the past and return to my present time to see how far everything would've came. I believe there would be an incredible advance in medical and technology that there would be cures for many many diseases that don't have a cure today. Technology would be pretty cool to see advanced too but medical is much more important so we can all live longer, happier and more productive lives.

What a great question! I'd be inclined to have my husband hold my ankles and poke my head in to see what I could see. Our luck, it would look like paradise. Then we'd step through and be snapped up by a dinosaur or sometime. Or a world where people are the pets for all other animals....

I am no fun. I would not go. I might consider sending things on through though that I did not want back. Things I wanted to be rid of. I wish I could send a few extra pounds that way.

Funny should mention control freak. I'm just plain tired of being the control freak. Unfortunately someone has to be in control and no one else here can or will do it.

Now that's funny! I have to agree. I don't think I could do it. Too much of a control freak. The unkown is just sooo...I don't know...UNKNOWN! I'd rather tie the rope onto an adventurous friend who I trusted completely and have him/her bring me back a report. Kind of reminds me of 'Land of the Lost' kids show from about 30 yrs ago - really corny. They recently remade it into a movie that should be coming out soon. They all ended up with the dinosaurs and NO WAY HOME!

While I believe I'd have to have a rope around my waist so I coud haul myself back "home," I'd love to explore other dimensions and other worlds. Sometimes, I'm so stressed and overworked I'd like to go so I could escape. Usually, though, I'd just want to explore out of curiosity. Do you remember an old song by Peggy Lee, "Is That All There Is?" I want to know! And I love reading about such things, but I'd rather experience it!

I leave a note behind telling everyone where the insurance policies were and then I'd leap through that portal on wings! I'd give my eyeteeth to be able to do that. And if I could, I'd make sure I had a GPS to get me home again! LOL

That wouldn't work if you were taken to a different planet or a different time period.

Oh a GPS. That's a good idea. I wish I had thought of it. And just in case Zu is right I would also take a compass so I wouldn't hike around in circles.

I'd be sure to tie a rope that leads back home! Are you a Stephen King fan? Lisey's Story deals with another dimension, it's fascinating and I could hardly put the book down!

Really??? I got that book on CD so that I could listen to it in my car and I almost fell asleep at the wheel. Most boring SK book I've ever had!

It started a bit slowly, true, but it picked up. I've never been able to listen to books on tape or cd, I'd rather see the words and read at my own pace, use my imagination to hear the voices and see the sights. Maybe if you read the book it would be better? I love alternate universe tales.

This takes some major thought..I,like you would be curious and would want to know what lays on the other end of that portal. But I don't think I would be ready for it. It could be worse then you described on the other end. I would try to send a video camera through it first for sure on a remote control car/truck to see or try to see what was there.. I would think that all things still wouldn't be so innocent looking even if it did appear that way.. never know what could happen if whatever on the other end were alerted to the going ons. I would then send something bigger threw like one of those robotic arms with a camera on it. Costly but well worth it. I would then notify the authorities to come check it out and if they were zapped and never returned then I would know to not go..in and to move away far far far away...

Well that might be a way to get rid of a few..lol But they would have more proper equipment to able to do something to figure out where it goes and what it was you know they would drag all kinds of scientist into it.

Awww, come on. We don't want the authorities to know about it. They will just screw it up like they have this world.

Haha I would so go through it... depending on how dangerous it looked :) If it looked pretty and friendly, I'd probably jump in with no second thought. If it looked dark and scary, I might stay away. In my movie-watching experience, the portals always have a way back home :) So I wouldn't even consider getting "stuck" there, but the rope trick is a good thought! Perhaps I would put my video camera on a rope and toss it through first, then pull it back to see what it taped :)

Great idea unless whatever's over there ate the camera but then you'd know you wouldn't want to go there LOL ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Of course, no-one would be able to resist going through to see what was on the other side. You should watch Stargate, they have several portals including one that gives access to parallel realities and of course, the Stargate is a portal itself giving access to many wonderful and dangerous worlds.

Stargate is awesome! Though nowadays I prefer Star Trek over Stargate. MGM are thieves! They stole I dunno how many things from Paramount!

I would want to visit the past, and get the experience of interacting with some of our greatest spiritual teachers. My imagination here is telling me that they would know I was a visitor from the future and I would want to know what they would say about our current state of affairs in the world. . Derek

Hmmm. That's certainly food for thought. But we don't really know if we are capable of changing what has happened. I mean to say, nobody's ever came and told us that they have done so.. . Derek

If that were true, DON'T TELL THEM! You might end up altering our time period! If I went back to the past, I'd probably just live in some isolated little cottage somewhere in a beautiful forest near a stream. I'd have food, water, peace, be close to nature. It'd be a virtual paradise and I wouldn't tamper with the future. Then again, if I was brought there I may have had an instrumental role in the past that secluding myself would cause me not to play and the future would change anyway. The point is we have no clue and we'd have to be extremely careful what we did, but I'd say for the past if I somehow knew what's what it was I wouldn't go anyway. The future or something maybe but I'd be to nervous about altering the past. That's why on Star Trek they have the temporal Prime Directive.

Hi twoey68! This reminds me of the wardrobe or closet in the movie, "Narnia". lol..Well, if i get to find a portal that will take me into another world, i would definitely be curious what lies behind that door. Whatever lies behind that, I will surely find out. lol.. However, I am going to take along another person or maybe two people with me and instruct a few more to wait at the door until we get back. If we won't be back after a few hours..they have to send a rescue team. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

LMAO! Interesting that you mention Narnia. Hehe when I was a kid and after I read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, whenever I went to someone new's house, I would search every closet I could find for a hidden door. Lol needless to say I never found one, but I searched! haha

I would like to see Heaven, just for a bit, so I could hold and talk to my loved ones who have passed, have a nice conversation and then go home. It would give me a great boost to see them again. My other choice would be to visit the past, from before I was born, just to see what it was like in those days. I would not go through if I could not be assured of returning.

I actually do have a portal in my house that takes me to far and distand lands, both in the past and the future. Some are wonderful, some are scary - and I always wake up at home after every trip. It's call a television!

no I would not go to the other side if I could not come back, I would not want to give up what I have now for the unknown, I like security, I am not that much of a venturous type.

I think this is the whole reason why stories/movies with this concept have always fascinated us. Who wouldn't like to step through a wardrobe and end up in a land like Narnia where one can meet fauns, talking animals, Aslan, centaurs? Or how about the Stargate movie, where one steps into a portal and is taken to a whole different world, unfortunately a world where its inhabitants have been enslaved--thus when the 'crew" went through, there were a few members of the military that went? Being the rather curious sort, I too would love to step through a portal of some kind--I would just keep my fingers crossed that where it lead me would be a friendly environment...LOL t

I would be very, VERY frightened if I found a portal. I'm not very adventurous at all, and wouldn't even dare go backpacking or holidaying on my own - so it's extremely unlikely I'd have the nerve to step through a portal. In fact, I'd probably have to sell the house and move, because the temptation would be there and it would drive me mad.

I can't say what I would now that I am up there in years (LOL) and not as adventuresome as I was when I was younger.I probably would have entered a portal then to see what it as all about..I would have wanted some kind of lifeline to lead me back out. If it was a nice place I would want to be able to come back and get my family and take them to see it.I would like for it to be a beautiful place where people could live together in harmony without all the problems and bad things there are in this world..It would be a truly beautiful place where no one would be afraid or go hungry. There would be peace and equality and everyone would be treated the same..That would be wonderful.

It would depend on what state of mind I was in,if I was having a bad day then probably take a chance of finding something more peaceful and calm, knowing my luck I would turn up in a workhouse in the victorian times and be the one that cleans the lav ,no I think staying here would be the best thing at least here I know who the devil is,and can be sure my husband will be coming home from work and need his dinner. My son would need his school shirts ironed and who would sit the grandchildren in the holidays no I am needed here to much to go anywhere else.If I did go through the portal when I found my way back there would be so much mess in the house that would be left for me,so thats another good reason for not going.xxxx

a mysterious portal? sounds interesting i would probably mark some tennis balls and through into it and see if there was maybe a return portal somewhere close (like in Poltergeist LOL) If not I would contemplate the rope theory i would not just blindly walk into the portal of the unknown my kids need me and I could never just walk away from them into some great abyss
