My first Christmas present, its a shirt with cross stitch on it, but since me and the computer are not agreeing about posting pictures, I can't post it. Its a red shirt with roses on it, very nice, even Maggiepie thinks the colors work. So, have you started on Christmas yet? have you finished any yet?

No, I'm still working on birthday presents. My husband's birthday is next week. He got an early birthday present, they aren't going to lay him off. He's going to go to a sub-sidiary (spelling?) of the same company. I had birthdays and an anniversary in Feb. and now a birthday in March. I should do something for St. Pat's day. Then next month is Easter. I guess I'll have to find a way to keep up with it all!

Wow, it is so nice that your husband is not going to get laid off. Is he going to have a long commute or about the same? Will he keep the same rate of pay? I am full of questions, I guess, but glad to hear that is one thing off your plate.

Yeah, well he's learned more about it ( I had a bunch of questions, too. ). He can transfer to a job that isn't slated to be laid off, but now they're saying once he's there other people can bump him out, so he can still be laid off. The guy that originally told him was upset because he didn't realize my husband would be bumped. So now we're back to March 19 as a cut-off date. Drives us crazy. Everything goes back and forth. Still a soap opera. I hope he doesn't get bumped.

Good for you! I have not thought at all about Christmas yet, I usually don't till late spring. I will have to plan, though. While I give gifts that don't cost much, they take some planning. That shirt sounds beautiful, I might do something like that myself!

I got a gift card for Christmas at Target. I don't ever shop at Target, because their clothes are too small and the ones here don't have a REAL grocery section. So I used the card to pick up 3 shirts, this red one, a cute green sweater and a UT shirt for my brother. So I have another shirt to start on as soon as I get the floss. I already got the waste canvas.

Wow! Sounds awesome. I have finished one gift, a knitted hat. I should really get on this, I know i am going to regret procrastinating when November comes.

since I've done nearly all the stitching during programs with my mom, its taken me since the first of January to do this shirt. The next project shouldn't be to hard, then I need to find something for my sister and mom - will have to get shirts for them.

Wow that is really early Christmas present. But, if you are really making home made and personalized gifts for Christmas I guess you should start this early already.

Oh, yeah, I would rather have them done than worry about finishing them up just before Christmas

I haven't even begun to think about christmas yet! Congratulations for finishing your first shirt. It must feel great to achieve something like that! For christmas this year I plan to make flavoured vegan lipbalms for everyone. I have tried making a few but need to tweak the recipe a bit. I think it's great to make your own presents as most presents are just store bought generic gifts with not much thought gone into them. Good work.

I did "spa kits" with soap, tea, bath salts, a few chocolates in a container I painted. Those were a big hit.

Wow not only you started your Christmas gifts but you made it yourself! Good on you! I don’t know how to make anything like that and I certainly have not given any thought to Christmas pressies, I still have lots of birthdays to think about first! There is something so special about a hand made gift, very thoughtful and precious! Shame you can’t post a picture, it sounds really nice!

besides, where would you store it? Maggie's an artist, so if her eye says a color looks good together, I trust her (but I thought they looked good together too, and I have a pretty good eye for that.)

Cross stitch? Hard? Good Heavens, NO! Its the same stitch over and over. If you can count to 5 (10 is better) and hold a needle (and see colors) you can cross stitch - it does help to be able to see too, kind of hard for people like the roomie who might put her eye out by holding the project too close...

Wow! Starting on Christmas already! It seems like we just got thru with one, I am not ready to start thinking about next Christmas. I would rather think about summer comming and this snow melting (slowly). I read some of your responses and the "spa baskets" you said you made sound like a good idea. Different, but I wouldn't think too expensive, unless you made them that way. My friends birthday is in the middle of March, and I am working on a project for that. In past years, I would get something to make for her for Christmas, but I always left her project for last. Then when I didn't get done, which was most of the time, I could give it to her for her birthday.

I probably spent about $10-15 on the baskets, but the cups would cost more now, since the place I painted them at has gone

Couple? Heck I made about a dozen of these things, and the containers were the most expensive part! I got the melt and pour soap, we used the color/scent from the soap to make the bath salts. We bought a box of tea and put a couple in each kit and a bag of chocolates that also got a couple each. And I made a candle for each too. I could probably do it again, its been a few years since the last batch! I've got the soap and candle making stuff

That is a pretty good price for a couple of Christmas gifts. I hope I remember when I start doing Christmas things. I should be like you and start now, but I am snowed in so I'll have to wait and then I'll probably forget.

I know this is an old discussion, but I think it is still relevant. My god daughter is expecting in Oct. I have been cross stitching a baby blanket for her. I have been working on it almost every day since April, and I am not even a 1/4 of the way done. I have been and will be so busy with it, I doubt that I will make anything for Christmas presents. I may make the baskets you were talking about but I will probably have to buy everything! I already ordered the baskets. They are casserole baskets and have snowmen on the cover. I will fill them with tea and stuff like that keeping with the food theme.

Wow... getting up on your Christmas presents early I see! That is awesome because if anyone else is like me then they have the problem of waiting to long! The shirt sounds beautiful and when you can get a picture on MyLot I would love to see it! I also cross stitch, along with crochet, making little ornaments, and pretty much anything else that involves crafts! I hope you enjoy crafts as much as I do! Happy MyLotting!

I do pick my projects so they look nice but aren't too hard, the stuff on waste canvas needs to be large enough to see but not too complicated
4 Mar 10
WOW hun, I wish I was talented at cross stitch, it certainly sounds pretty. Christmas ??? I cheated a little and have three presents alreayd stashed away, thanks to the January sales I was able to pick up gifts at bargain prices.

Even when I could do crafts to give as Christmas presents, I never completed a gift in March. Now, I might just be finishing a gift for the Christmas that just passed, but never this early for the coming Christmas. You are one in a million.
