4/2/24 - Update on My Husband

I got a hold of Admissions at the rehab facility to which my husband wants to be transferred. They have beds available for short-term residents. She said I need to get a referral from the Social Worker of the rehab facility that he's currently at. That needs to be faxed to the new facility. I left a message for the Social Worker to call me. I've done this is the past; and she hasn't called. I will call her every day until she returns my call. Other than that, hubs said that he did 3 passes trying to walk with 2 people supporting him. They say he's doing well. I wonder how long it will be until he can walk unsupported? Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

As he feels better he will make bigger strides at improving his strength. I think I would call that Social Worker more than once a day. She should not ignore you.

I agree. Call her several times. She can call you back, that's what she is supposed to do, and it's not right when it's urgent like your husband not being in a good place.

That's good if your husband can walk with support at least. And a good idea to keep hounding the social worker. Remember - the squeaky door gets the oil.

Nice comparison. Squeaky door. Yeah...she should follow up with the social worker..frequently.

@JudyEv I wish I could be "cool" while following up. A few times, yes. But sometimes, it is more than a few times. Then it is annoying. I had this new tenant who asked me to meet him at the house last Wednesday. I went there. He turned up 3 hours late. How many times do you think I called him. Then he turned up and chose not to complete the deal asking me time till Saturday. Saturday morning he said he will turn up in the evening. Evening he said on Sunday. On Sunday he tells me sorry madam, I am not taking the premises on rent. Had he told me on Tuesday, I would have arranged for To Let board there. As things turned out, what happens, happens for good. I got a new tenant by saibaba's grace, almost immediately. Very nice couple, and keen to stay for a long time! No more running around for five years. God is great.

@vandana7 Vince is good at that sort of thing. He never loses his cool - just keeps asking politely and eventually whoever it is caves in and gives him what he wants.

I hope you don’t have to physically track down that social worker at her job. With your health that would be hard on your body.

@AmbiePam The Social Worker said she would send the Referral. So far I haven't received an answer to the messages I left for Admissions at the new facility.

That is very encouraging that he is walking with a 2-person assist. This will help him regain his strength and when his balance returns he will be good as new again. He seems really motivated to get back to where he should be by walking so much, that is very encouraging.

I hope the Social Worker will call you back. If your husband still needs two people to support him, I think it will take a little more time than you hope before he can walk unsupported.

I know. It's probably wishful thinking to assume he'll be home in 2 weeks.

I pray that he continues to do well and that when he finally gets to go home he will use a walker instead of risking another fall. Ahhh, but many old men don't always listen.

The food is inedible, he waits an hour for someone to respond to a call; and when they do respond, they act like they're doing him a favor.

Question for the rehab people I guess. I know someone who had a hip replacement who was mobile pretty quickly, but that is likely different from actually breaking a hip.

The hip doesn't bother him at all. It's being in a hospital bed for 6 weeks that made him weak.

That is wonderful he is up and walking with support. If he keeps doing that a couple times a day, he will regain his strength and hopefully before long not need support when he walks. I'd call that social worker more than once a day, until you speak with her. You are his advocate. When Mike's Dad was sick and finally placed in hospice care, we called people multiple times a day to get the things we needed to help him and us through the process. There were some who helped immediately, others like the social worker you have took more times of calls on our part to talk with her. I understand they have many families they are working with daily, but no one should not get a call saying they got your message and will help you as soon as possible.
