Wikipedia says that "A mushroom or toadstool is the fleshy, spore-bearing, fruiting body of a fungus..." A mushroom contains a cap, stem and gills under the cap. Forms deviating from the standard are the puffball, stinkhorn, truffle, bolete and morel. The truffle, for example, grows under the ground.
In the 15th and 16th centuries mushrooms were referred to as mushroms, mousheroms, etc. In the 14th century in England the word toadstool appears. The word possibly means an inedible, poisonous fungus which a toadstool is.
Mushrooms may be edible, poisonous or unpalatable. There are approximately 14,000 species. Some of the edible varieties are chanterelles, shitake, oyster, button, lobster, crimini and portobello. Some poisonous varieties are toxic, mind-altering, death cap, false parasol, jack o' lantern, inky cap, brain, angel wing and laughing Jim.
Mostly water, a mushroom contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Mushrooms can lower cholesterol, are good for gut health, safe for diabetics, can lower blood pressure and are anti-inflammatory which boosts the immune system.
Do you like mushrooms? What kind? Do you cook with them?

I love button mushrooms and local hay mushrooms. I use as stuffing for sandwiches. I cook them with potatoes as curry. I also make mushroom chops.

I love mushrooms and eat them most weeks. I don’t think the Wiki description makes them sound appetising though.

Yes, I love mushrooms but Pretty HATES them... She says they taste like dirt and throws fits if I use them in my cooking. (She USED to love them when I'd batter and fry slices of mushrooms in butter. I don't know what happened to change that but something did...)
I have some button mushrooms in cans in the cupboard and used to add them to scrambled eggs or soups but if Pretty sees the can on the counter, she starts screaming that I'm trying to poison her.
I tell her to leave it all for me and she won't have to worry about it but she won't stop...

Mushrooms aren’t exactly my favorite, but I do eat them—and when they're cooked right, I actually enjoy them. I especially love them in soups, with beef or chicken dishes, stirred into pasta, or even on pizza. They add this rich, earthy flavor that just makes everything feel a little heartier. I may not crave them on their own, but they’re definitely one of those ingredients that quietly elevate a meal.

Yes I like it but I'm very conscious now that I have gout. Mushrooms are rich in purines
