Pies can be sweet or savory. Some of the many examples are: mince, lemon meringue, strawberry rhubarb, quiche, pecan, pumpkin, sweet potato, mud, steak and kidney, mushroom, pot, apple, Key lime, chocolate cream, coconut, calzone, pizza, chess, shoofly, blueberry, cherry, fried and tart. I remember one company that used to have a frozen pie around the holidays...apple/cranberry/raisin...so good! Some time before 2000 BC a recipe for chicken pie was written on a tablet in Sumer (Mesopotamia area). Found on the tomb wall of Pharaoh Ramasses II, who ruled from 1304 to 1237 BC, were pictures of galettes -- flat, round or free-form crusty cakes with a crust of ground oats, wheat, rye or barley with honey inside. 1303 was the first known use of the word pie. One 1450 recipe contained "beef, beef suet, capons, hens, mallard and teal ducks, rabbits, woodcocks, large birds such as herons and storks, beef marrow, hard cooked egg yolks, dates, raisins and prunes". Fresh fruit did not become widely used until sugar became more affordable in the 16th century. Do you like pie? What is your favorite? Do you make pies from scratch? What is your specialty? My favorite pie is pecan and we normally only buy one of those around Thanksgiving and then again around Christmas. I used to make pecan pies at home but stopped doing that because my recipe makes two pies at one time and that was too much... I have made chicken pot pies but stopped when Pretty's mom got Pretty to call them "slops" like fit only for pigs to eat.

I love chicken pot pies. They are definitely not slops. I haven't had pecan pie in ages. How are you this morning?

@DaddyEvil I'm OK thank you. I have several calls to make today. Maybe I will make an appointment with the lawyer and get that out of the way.

@LindaOHio - I think I never bought an apple pie, but I used to buy an apple strudel and the apples were always perfectly baked.

I love blueberries. What I hate about buying an apple pie from a bakery is that they never bake the apples long enough. They are always hard. I prefer the frozen pies.

My favorite pie is pumpkin pie, followed closely behind by Key Lime pie (using real key limes). I'm pretty much a fan of just about all flavors of pies, but the two I just listed are definitely at the top of my list.

@LindaOHio It's funny, down in the Keys, no matter what type of restaurant it is, they will all serve Key Lime pie!

I do like pie and my favorite is probably good old apple but I do enjoy most fruit pies. As for meat I like chicken or turkey pot pies but have never made them myself. Always have one in the freezer for a quick meal when I don't feel like cooking.

I love pies. In the UK, to be called a pie, it has to have a top crust, so things like quiches, wouldn’t be technically called a pie. If it doesn’t have a top crust, we call them tarts (not to be confused with a wanton woman ), or a flan. As far as savoury pies are concerned, I love a mince and onion pie. When I was a child, my mother used to bake a delicious bacon and egg pie. This seems to have gone out of fashion in favour of the quiche. It has my approval. In the sweet stakes, I love an apple pie. And talking of tarts: I love a Bakewell tart. I think it’s the almond that makes it.

@LindaOHio Yes, from the town of Bakewell in England. Treacle tart is another favourite of mine. Oh, and custard tart. There are many.

I'm not big into pie but I do enjoy pumpkin and apple pies. I also enjoy chicken pot pie. When I was in England I learned to like steak and ale pie but I haven't had that in 25 years. I want to make a key lime pie but somehow the leftover key lime juice leaked out of the bottle so I need to get some more.

I would love to taste your version of Key lime pie. On one of our trips to the Keys we stopped in a different restaurant each night and had Key lime pie and a cup of decaf coffee. Each pie was made differently.
