Alien costumes are RACIST!

Illegal Alien Costume - If you aren't offended by this, you must be a racist!

No, the title is not a joke. Target is now under fire for offering an "illegal alien" costumer on their website. The costume, pictured below, has your typical alien mask with an orange jumpsuit and a phony greencard. Seems cute and funny enough right? Not to the left wing morons who are claiming it's racist towards "immigrants" "Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, says she wrote an e-mail to the Minneapolis-based retailer Friday calling the costume "distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant of social stigmas and current debate on immigration reform." Target, in typical pathetic corporate fashion, is bowing down the the pressure from these morons because of course no big organization wants to be accused of racism towards aliens. They're claiming they never intended to sell it and that it was a mistake that it got on their website... right. Why can't they just grow a backbone and tell these loons that it's just a freaking alien costume. Is there anyone here who actually thinks this is offensive or racist? If I didn't hate masks I'd get one right now just for the he1l of it. : http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking-news/story/1286691.html

Didn't you know they are going to outlaw satire, spoof, sarcasm and humor? If you want to be a good American, you must take everything very seriously and search diligently for possible offensive content. If you can't find any offensive content, make something up! The entire premise that this is offensive to any group is insane. It's a play on words and very clever. The mask is clearly of a UFO alien and as far as I know there has been no discrimination against UFO aliens arriving in the US illegally. Heck, people sit out in fields waiting to welcome them. I don't know of any social stigma attached to being an extraterrestrial. Does Target sell only attractive witch masks, for fear of offending real witches who don't have warts and bad teeth? You know, this discrimination thing could make the entire holiday illegal under the hate crimes legislation. It's just the same old, same old from the left. They have no sense of humor. I resent the prospect of living in an America where everyone is a great big weeping sore, too tender to be touched, too infected with self-consciousness to be healthy. It's people like this who are turning society into a big bunch of crybabies.

It's not "racist" because it doesn't insinuate anything about race. I find the term "alien" when referring to immigrants to be derogatory because of what the term has come to mean, but the government is the one who chooses to institutionalize that word. This costume is a play on that. So honestly, I don't have a problem with it, if anything it's spreading awareness about how ridiculous it is that we call other humans aliens.

Ha ha....I was tagged by the government for many years as a legal alien until I became a citizen. I used to tell people I was not green and I did not arrive in spaceship but a very nice jet into New York!

Of course it isn't RACIST. An alien, as in a lifeform from another planet - is just another creature. There's nothing racist about that. As far as anybody being OFFENDED - you'd only be offended if you actually attribute ILLEGAL ALIENS to immigrants - and you shouldn't IF the immigrants are coming here the CORRECT WAY. The only reason anybody would be offended is if they are coming here illegally or agree with illegal immigration. I wish that people who wanted illegal immigration or went along with it or tried to hide it or thought it was okay would get arrested. There, I said it. Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles? WTF? I only believe in humane immigrant rights if they are not ILLEGAL!! If they are doing something illegally, they HAVE NO RIGHTS!!!

I'd venture to say a lot of these screamers of racism have never even seen racism in their lives. Just what they imagine or want racism to be.

Not in the twilight zone we apparently have entered. I've said this last two years feels like a bad dream we can't wake up from...I was wrong...we've entered into some weird dimension where NOTHING makes sense anymore!

Great, mommyboo! You are 100% right. Racism is the new hue and cry of liberal facists who don't want anybody to EVER disagree with them. Political correctness is nonsense and a tool to manipulate people and their thinking; EVEN to the utter foolishness of not allowing anyone to have a sense of humor over a stupid costume. This is pathetic, as is the notion that an "illegal" alien who has ILLEGALLY entered this or any country has any "rights"! debrakcarey, yes, this is now another dimension which cannot EVER make sense because it is the utter futility of the consequence of "calling good evil and evil good." An illegal alien is ILLEGAL and has committed a crime which should only be rewarded by deportation, not "RIGHTS". But the liberal mind is so bent and warped that it endorses lies and every form of evil and perversion. Gives me a headache and makes me want to wretch.

LMAO! I always love starting my day with a healthy dose of stupid! In all honesty, Angelica Salas insulted immigrants with her comments more than Target ever did because SHE linked the costume to a particular segment of society, while the costume itself was fantasy. Geez, some folks have too much time on their hands....

Of course. It wasn't directed at HUMAN illegal aliens. It was a play on the term "aliens" I'm glad I provided you with some stupid to start your day lol.

Some people are just extreme or they want their 15 minutes of fame by making ridiculous claims like this. Is "racist" the new tag for anyone who offends?

She won't think it's racist when we're invaded and the aliens destroy our planet with their superior technology. The truth is out there for people like her but she denies the truth. She is a disbeliever and we can't save her.

This just gets to be too much. Next they'ell be saying that the Obama Halloween masks are racists. For crying out loud it's just a Halloween costume. Not all so called witches have green hair or worts and are ugly but that is how the Halloween costumes are made. Too many people are just getting too sensitive these days. No one has a sense of humor.

That kind of racist tag is going from stupid to absolutely ridiculous. IMO the racist slur is lately being thrown about in the most inane connotations.

If you think about it, it lessens the meaning of the term. Waters it down to mean nothing. And that should make those who are really concerned with REAL racism, bothered.

Perhaps people are upset because the costume does not comply with Federal Truth in Labeling Law. Instead of 'Illegal Alien', the costume should read-'Foreign National who entered the US in violation of Federal Immigration laws yet demands rights and privileges equivalent to the millions of people who entered the US legally.' Of course, this might be difficult to fit on the costume but it would comply the required Truth in Labeling Law.

The real racist is Angelica Salas who is the worst kind of racist. She's racist against her own people. She's calling Hispanics weak, unable to think for themselves, prone to dishonest and illegal acts. I know Hispanic people who would wear the costume because they have a sense of humor. Even my own niece, who is Hispanic, would find it funny. It reminds me of years ago when I was in business college. Everyone dressed up for Halloween. Someone came as a sheeted KKK member. All day long people wondered who would dare dress in such a costume. Turned out to be the black financial aid director. Some people got upset but as she said "It's only a costume."

It is perfectly acceptable to use humor to deal with the 'darker' side of the human psyche....it disarms it and makes it LESS threatening.

That has got be one of the most inane stories I have ever come across, and no I actually find it quite funny how an UFO/alien custom is supposed to be offensive, and even more so how Target is being pressured to bow down and pull these costumes from their stores. I just think that this is just an extremity of political correctness going way too far. I still don't see the correlation between the costume and how it's racist towards anyone for that matter and I would be surprised if anyone that replies to this discussion would actually be offended? I just think that people need to get a life because there are so many more important things in the world to be worrying about, then something so mundane as a Halloween costumer.

well of course the illegals and their family and anyone helping them come here and stay are mad about it its not bad enough that my grandkids are being forced to learn spanish, that our welfare system is to busy helping them instead of our kids, grandkids whos families have been here since mayflower landed and our native american ancestors before that. they get mad every time someone tries to point out how wrong they are to illegally pass our borders. their country refuses to give them help there when they need it, so they come to bum from ours, like a lot of countries do. its why we are in such a bad state here. i think they should keep the costume. it really makes a statment about how scarey these people are

I really wish you were kidding. This is so stupid. How in the heck does a costume of UFO-type alien constitute racism toward the illegals in this country? Perhaps we should give the illegal people a new title--nationally challenged workers. Would that be more sensitive?

Well, my first reaction is that of course SOMEONE would find a reason to be upset with it for SOME reason. Just about anything will cause somebody to get their tail in a knot for one reason or other it seems. This Ms. Salas needs to chill out and get a sense of humor. And another thing, she's violating the politically correct rules here. She's linking the term "alien" with immigrants and that's a big no-no now. She should be ashamed of herself for thinking of immigrants as aliens. My my... The costume is clearly an alien from another planet Ms. Salas, and not an immigrant, unless of course he wants to become a citizen of, um... earth. The really pitiful part though is that Target is bowing down on this non-issue and taking it out of the stores, if it ever was in fact intended to be offered for sale. What wimps... You're absolutely right, they need to grow a backbone and stock the stores full of them and tell the whining loonies to just shut up. I bet they would sell a ton of them, especially with all the publicity. So, it's another defeat for common sense, nobody wins and they both look stupid. Figures...

That costume is funny, what is wrong with people who would find that offensive? Some people need to discover their funny bone. As to Target and bones, Target needs to discover a backbone. I am sure everyone could walk into a Target if they really wanted to and discover something they are offended by. So is Target going to pull every product that someone declares offensive?

OMG, I do hope this woman doesn't have any children who want to wear any type of costume on Halloween. She might freak out...I also hope no children visit her house in costume to say "Trick or Treat", she may call the police and tell them she has been threatened. I think she just put her foot in her mouth when comparing this to the illegal immigrants who are here. She needs to spend more time cleaning her own house before trying to get Target to clean theirs. Her mind could use a good flush out. Is this how she lives her life, trying to start some riots over something so inane? Someone should tell her to get a life and leave the costumes to those who want to wear them at Halloween. Sometimes I actually feel sorry for this pea-brained woman.

no it is not racist itis just sort of funny. if any illegals get peeved that is tough. let them stay in Mexico and come here legally so they are not criminals.illegal means against the law. so yes come on with the costumes, they might just be fun to wear.they are not immigrants if they sneak in here illegally, they are just illegals

Hmm. This reminds me of the time I went to a costume party dressed as an Arabic man (I'm a fe-type-male...). I painted a beard on, wore the checkered scarf on my head, sandals, the works. No-one got bent out of shape. They were simply amused! I say the hell with P.C. morons. We could all make our own "illegal alien" costumes easily enough...well, except for the fake green card, anyway. It'd be a hoot. Then we could all show up at Target & thumb our noses at them, letting them know they missed making a lot of pesos off of us! Maggiepie "Obama is an 'undocumented worker!'"

The costume is alright and is funny. The only one who would think this are types of racism is the racist themselves. You would be pretty much hurt by this costume if indeed you are illegal..illegal immigrant. If I were an immigrant I would definitely wear the costume
