Hi there. My husband, Vince, and I live in a gated lifestyle village in Western Australia. One adult son lives in Melbourne, Victoria and the other in Ireland.

I wrote about a white wattle-bird appearing in my brother-in-law’s garden. We drove there this afternoon and saw the bird as soon as we pulled up. It was feasting on a grevillea and we snapped photos of it for half-an-hour or so....

Vince’s brother has quite an extensive garden, much of it planted to native species. It’s a haven for the local birds, who are attracted to the plants and to the several birdbaths.
Yesterday, he sent up photos of what appeared...

I took this photo on top of Elachbutting Rock which I’ve already told you about – several times in fact. These pretty little plants were growing in almost no earth at all.
I’m always surprised how plants will establish...

I am hoping I’ll be able to post a photo with this but I thought I’d like to tell you about what turned up on my news feed this morning.
We used to live in Ravensthorpe in south-east Western Australia. Hopetoun was 30 miles away...

We saw this sign on a farmer’s gate on our way to Beacon in Western Australia. On the way home, we stopped to get a photo of it.
We felt really sorry for the farmer. He is obviously very upset about his Case tractor. These cost...

The area around Elachbutting Rock is quite different to some other areas. The tunnel I wrote about is a bit eerie and many of the trees are quite misshapen as though they’ve had a very tough life. There is no bright green foliage....

At Elachbutting Rock, we were able to drive to the top of it. From there, you could see for miles. My first surprise was to see the way the farming land was being used way over to the north-west. I took the above photo to try to...

I started a new jigsaw today. I’ve put up the photos before. It’s one of those jigsaws where what you see on the box is not actually what you’re trying to create.
I’m having a really good look at the photo I took of the finished...

George B Vieto (@deepizzaguy) writes good news stories here and when the story concerns wildlife, it is often mentioned that wildlife are losing much of their natural habitat.
In the South Australian coastal town of Robe, wombats...

I was quite excited to see a quandong tree (Santalum acuminatum) while walking round Elachbutting Rock. I thought I took a photo of the fruits on the tree but somehow I missed the fruits and only have some branches. There were a...

I’m sure you don’t want a photo of the motor-home or a tyre so you’ve got more photos from the rocks we visited.
We have a motor-home. It has dual wheels at the back and we haven’t been able to get to the valve of one of the...

I’ve done a collage of photos taken in Monty’s Pass, a 30-metre tunnel at Elachbutting Rock near Beacon, Western Australia. I don’t know how the pass got its name.
A huge slab of granite has broken away from the main rock to form...

One of the reasons I wanted to go back to the Beacon area in Western Australia was to go to Elachbutting Rock. It’s not far from Beringbooding Rock which I’ve already written about.
Elachbutting Rock is another large granite...

About a week ago we went to a concert put on by the Darling Range Wind Ensemble in Western Australia. The theme was ‘Disney’ and many of the performers dressed up as Disney characters. Maybe some were just cartoon characters but...

I wrote about Berinbooding Rock recently. The granite slabs for the walls were formed by lighting a big fire on the surface of the rock. This was allowed to burn all night. When water was poured on the rock next morning the...

While we were away, we visited Berinbooding Rock again. I wrote about it in 2019 and 2020 but hopefully, if you’re like me, you’ll have forgotten. The rock is a short distance from Beacon.
The rock is huge and during 1937 at the...

I know people have trouble with AI, (as in ‘artificial intelligence’ and not ‘artificial insemination’)! We use ChatGPT for getting information about a whole range of subjects. We know we need to check the reliability of its...

I’ve spoken before about small towns coming up with all sorts of ideas to entice visitors to their towns. Having said that, some of the more popular towns are finding themselves overwhelmed with tourists and just wish they’d all...

While we were in the Wyalkatchem Museum, my brother-in-law played a couple of hymns on the pedal organ that was there. I think the instrument could also be called a ‘harmonium’. This one had bellows which were operated by the foot...

We’ve been away for a few days with Vince’s brother and his grandson. We visited two of the same museums that Vin and I visited on our last road trip. The grandson is about 14, on the autism spectrum and has ADHD. He couldn’t have...
